Well, Thursday was dry...

I went camping in the White Mountains for my days-off work again this past week.

Wednesday evening about 6:00 o'clock it started to downpour.  And, it poured torrents all night long into early Thursday morning.  The sleeping was great, listening to the rain pelt the skin of the tent.  The river (the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River) that runs alongside the campsite must have risen a good two feet between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.  One could actually notice the sound of the river getting louder as it rose and and raged against the rocks that litter its course.  Awesome-ness!

Once the rain ended Thursday morning, the rest of Thursday was dry, overcaste with a peek of sunshine every now and again.  Then on Friday morning, I'd no sooner gotten back from some blueberry picking when it started to rain again.  Sprinkles at first.  Knowing I'd be leaving later that day, I thought I'd better tear down the tent and pack away as much as I could in case the rains got heavy again.  And, they did do!  I had the tent down, but not yet put away when the skies opened.  So, I rushed to finish my packing and got most everything put away, a bit wet but not soaked.  With everything but one tarp and my chair stowed in the truck, I was able to relax and enjoy the rest of the morning reading and just watching the rain and the river.

Oh, and the blueberries?  ...they weren't as ripe as I thought they'd be by now.  But, I did manage to get enough ripe berries for my planned Hláfmæsse gifts to Eorðe which I will be giving on the full moon this coming Thursday, August 6th.
