Problem/Solution...my day in steps...

Problem: Check the bank account at 8am, no paycheck has been deposited.
Solution:
a) call the bank "we have no record of any deposit being attempted"
b) Double check my direct deposit information (REALLY helps if you put in the right account number...just saying)
c) call payroll for an emergency check "sorry, we can't cut you a check for at least 5 days, or until our check comes back from your bank" (NOT Helpful)
d) Run to bank to deposit check, (different check) and transfer money from emergency account to cover mortgage etc.
e) Return to work and check bank account...paycheck has mysteriously appeared (not complaining...but geez, soo didn't need this heart attack today)

Problem: Need to re-finance my car, but I need either a) a clear title or b) a power of attorney from the previous owner.

Solution:
a) well, I mailed the title paperwork to the address it said to mail it to on the form but forgot to actually include the title (turns out, this is a good thing) Unfortunately, I DID include the original power of attorney, and the other documents...So, call the county tax assessor's office, (or some such) "Oh, we have no record of actually receiving your paperwork...where did you mail it?" Me: "To the address on the form..TxDot etc." Them: "Oh, that's the wrong place, you need to call them and get it back"
b) Call TxDot. "Oh, we're sorry, we never received it, so we can't send it back to you" (To be fair, they were friendly, polite, helpful, and even called me back and followed up twice...they just didn't have what I needed)
c) Get home, find the previous owner's phone number, call him up and ask him to please resend me originals of all of the paperwork *sigh*

Problem: We have a vendor that needs to get paid..he's paid on an hourly basis, and he logs his hours via an online tool...but despite his logging the hours, they aren't showing up, and despite repeated attempts on his part...not good. (he's a nice guy too, I feel bad for all the hassle, and it's NOT a small amount of money...we pay him something like $100/hour)

Solution: in progress...waiting for him to send me the hours he's claiming, and check with my boss about a buggy system.

Smaller Problem: All my bills need to be set up in online bill-pay, but I have none of them with me, so I don't have the billing information.

Solution: Call 15 different places and get their billing addresses, my account numbers etc. and FINALLY get them all set up

Problem: We have an account with ADT home security...for a house that's been gone for nearly a year (and by gone I mean knocked down, slab taken apart, we no longer own it etc.) But they wouldn't let us out of our contract, and the City wouldn't take it over. Regardless, I need to cancel the credit card that it's charged to every month.

Solution: Call ADT, wade through their menus and spend 20 min on the phone arguing with someone about wanting to change my card and pay off the rest of the contract.

This..this was my day. This doesn't even take into account the large amounts of foot traffic in my office today, and me being the only person in the office available to take care of said foot traffic. I suppose I didn't HAVE to tackle everything at once...but...one day of headaches and hair pulling vs. a week or three of headaches and hair pulling....better to just get it done.

On a more positive note, I DID get most of the work cleared off my desk (excepting the vendor problems), One of the students that I was helping today brought me a souvenir from the Cirque du Soleil show that his team went to in Las Vegas this weekend (little refrigerator magnet, not much, but it's the thought), and I got a picture back from one of the student groups of myself trying on a Chinese outfit at our big event last week.

On top of that...our house-guest rules. She made dinner tonight, and I didn't even have to do anything but show up at the table.
