Yesterday was rather eventful, as the crows landed randomly through the day. A few days ago I came across the crow busters web site, on decoying and calling crows. Everything on there is for the crow hunters. I can understand the farmers having a gripe against crows, when they ruine their crops. But for the people that take up crow hunting as a sport what can they possibly gain from killing the 6th smartest creature on the planet. Their plumage has no value for its colour, they have almost no meat on them. They help the urban/suburban areas by cleaning waste and litter. In my opinion it' seems like a downright wimpy pass time for a man.
Well on that site they have electronic crow calls to attract crows. Most of them are stress calls, like a crow fighting a hawk, calling other crows because of stress, and the worst one of all is the dying crow call. The 3 calls I thought I might use to attract them was the Rally Call, the Attention Call, and the Look Here Call. I down loaded them to my laptop. After I spread the feed around I brought my lap top out on the deck and played all 3 of them several times. Within about 20 minutes they came around. Well I tried the same thing today, and they have not come as yet? So who knows if the calls actually worked?? It's raining today, so perhaps they hide in the trees on rainy days? I bought a bag of frozen chicken thighs, so I cut some of them up and strewed them around. It's after 9:00 am and no crows yet? I hope the jays don't steal the chicken.
