Adaptations... huh.
I'm watching Franco Zeffirelli's version of The Taming to the Shrew, and his take on it is quite different than ours was. It seems that Petruchio is kind of an idiot and a drunkard and Hortensio is all clever in getting him to consent to The Plan. Also, Hortensio's kind of freaked out by Petruchio and Grumio; not the "nerdy guy wants to get in with the cool guys" kind of thing at all. It had never even occured to me to think of it that way. It's funny how one-track-minded you get to be.
