i haven't read lj in a week but i have read a lot of books!

blameless by gail carriger: i love these so much! lyall is my faaaaaaavorite, but i really do love everyone in these books which is INSANE because y'all know how i feel about immortals/non-humans. (if you DON'T know, i am mostly opposed to them, because they are, generally speaking, boring dickhead drama queens. i am also opposed to humans who meet these qualifications, both real and fictional.)

the year of secret assignments by jaclyn moriarty: i didn't realize this was a sequel, but it didn't really matter. i liked how it was written, with the letters back and forth, but the story itself was a little eh.

rogue's home by hilari bell: FISK! so many sadfaces for the boys in this one, but especially for fisk. (michael put himself into his shitty situation, hence less sadfaces.) i obviously need to get off my ass and read everything hilari bell has ever written though.

this is your brain on music by david levitin: a lot of this was really interesting, if you are a nerd who is into music theory and genetics. fortunately, i am DEFINITELY into both of those things! some parts were kind of dry, but overall it was a good read.

impossible by nancy werlin: the story was interesting enough (girl must complete three impossible tasks or go crazy / become some asshole fairy's sex slave), but the writing was not very good. the dialogue was very stilted and dated, but the book was written pretty recently, so...idk. meh.

the boy book by e. lockhart: this is the second ruby oliver book, and i liked it MUCH MORE than the first. the first one is all about ruby's dickhead ex-boyfriend, but this one is more about the friends she lost and then got back (or didn't), which is a situation i'm much more interested in.

tortall and other lands by tamora pierce: i love tammy a lot. i love her as a human being, and as an author, and as a writer. so it's really not a surprise to anyone that i loved the shit out of these stories. my favorites were the one about nawat (the creepy crowman actually broke my heart a little) and the one about the tree (i could definitely read more of his journey), but they were all really fantastic. (plus i mean, tortall is my favorite fictional world ever. i could obviously read books and books of short stories that take place there.)

then today i started wintergirls by laurie halse anderson, which has already given me a small panic attack ("what would i have done if m. had called me 30 times and then mysteriously died?") which left me in a foul, depressed mood for most of the day. sometimes i think laurie is TOO good of a writer, with how easily she puts me back the headspace i occupied throughout high school/college. (just kidding, there's no such thing as TOO good. this is more of a sign that i should just suck it up and go back to therapy, buttttt i still don't want to and the deal i made with myself is still being upheld, so OH WELL. i'll just resign myself to freaking out all week and snapping at my coworkers a lot.)

books: music, books: gail carriger, books: ya, books: general, books: speak
