visiting with my family was SO MUCH FUN but also crazy exhausting. there was lots of running around disney involved. we went to mgm thursday night for fantasmic, which i still get a kick out of. matt fell asleep, joe seemed fine until he threw an epic tantrum while we were trying to leave, and shelby freaked out because she hates fireworks. they all left after that, and i almost stayed to ride some more rides and therefore not totally waste my pass, but i was tired. whatever.

friday i met them at their hotel (all star movies, which is super-cute. it was especially cute since joe is obsessed with buzz lightyear) for breakfast, and then we met everyone else at magic kingdom. we ended up with 25 people (10 kids), but everything went AMAZINGLY smoothly. we got our own boat for the jungle cruise (thumbs down for the new spiel), we had the exact right number of people for pirates, splash mountain, and thunder mountain, the lines were really short when we got there and we got fast passes for things before lunch since it was getting more crowded, nobody freaked out during any of the rides, the changes to haunted mansion are great, the kids all took a well-timed nap at the hall of presidents... then we headed over to the castle to see if they would let us add people to the dinner reservation, and they amazingly let my cousin add 5 of us, so i got to eat dinner with princesses! i've never been inside the castle, so that was fun. we had four tables and once the princesses arrived the kids were all just running around like crazy people and matt was in destructo mode, but everyone had fun and the food was great and our server was really fantastic, especially since the kids were all crazed and we were too busy trying to wrangle them to really eat.

after dinner we sent the tired/cranky kids and the grandparents to find us seats for the fireworks, and we walked around some more. we took the train around the park to calm the kids down a little, then everyone went on the teacups before heading back for the fireworks. we sat on the porch of the crystal palace, so i got to see the mini-show thing and the fireworks from the front, which i've never done. the little show with the pictures was really cute, i liked how they colored the castle for it. joe was SUPER-DISAPPOINTED when they played toy story music but did not show buzz though, haha. shelby hid for the whole thing, but she was watching and not crying by the end. matt got bored so i was just tossing him in the air for a while.

i went back to the hotel with them after, and the kids all fell asleep before we even got to the bus. i ended up sitting around with my cousin, drinking wine and secretly smoking and talking about lots of random stuff for a few hours.

and then i came home and slept for about 14 hours. i was really tired, okay?

last night we went downtown for the first time in ages (we have not been to the social since LAST JUNE WTF) to see cure for caska and some other local bands. i have never seen backbooth that crowded! everyone in cure for caska is still ridiculous and adorable! good times were had!

today i am just doing laundry and not cleaning and glaring at the stack of books i have to read. i am 3/4 of the way through the book thief by mark zusak and i love it, but it's making me very sad because i know it can't end well. and i'm on chapter 2 of order of the phoenix but i don't want to read it anymore because i know it's going to make me sad. it's my favorite book in the series but i'm dreading the ending so much that i've been on chapter 2 for WEEKS! ridiculous. if i don't hurry up i'm going to be reading deathly hallows too close to the movie and then i am going to be a crankypants in july instead of the saddest sadpanda.

and i'm listening to the audiobook for the lies of locke lamora, which is the best life choice i have ever made. i listened to it while i slept last night instead of putting on a movie and had a bunch of locke lamora dreams. it's a pretty good audiobook, but it probably helps that i've read the book so many times? idk, i still can't really do audiobooks. i think the reason i like reading so much is that i can't really do it while i'm doing anything else- it forces me to settle down and focus on one thing, which i am otherwise terrible at. but with an audiobook, i end up getting distracted by everything around me while listening, and i have terrible listening comprehension even when i AM focusing. but at least this way i can hear about the gentleman bastards as i drift off instead of sherlock holmes or tony stark or peter pan.

(someday i will be able to listen to music while i sleep again. sigh.)

music: concerts, books: hp, the mouse, books: gentlemen bastards, books: ya, life: la famille
