this post somehow because all about damion suomi.
work: after boss gave us raises, one of my coworkers decided not to quit. so we're still understaffed, but not quite as badly! huzzah!
family: my dad had to go to the hospital last week, for reasons still unknown. he's home and cranky-tired now though! but also my family (aunt and uncle, several cousins, their kids, some of their in-laws, one of their best friends) are in town on vacation, so i'm getting family time this week! i love family time! on friday my aunt and uncle took me out to dinner and delivered the records i stole from my mom (SUCCESS! she didn't steal back ANY of them, even the ones i said she could!), and on sunday i went to epcot with everyone! the kids were all varying degrees of cranky during the day, except matt (the littlest, and also my godson, and also A BOTTOMLESS PIT OF GOLDFISH AND ICE CREAM) who was pretty cheerful all day. i got to spend a lot of time playing with him cos he's getting too heavy for anyone else to willingly carry him for long :D (no seriously: a bottomless pit. it's pretty hilarious to watch.) i got to play tour guide, which is epically ridiculous because i get super-lost in epcot and spend most of my time there hovering around the hello kitty merchandise, but everyone seemed to have fun! i'm going to magic kingdom with them on friday, at which point i will need to con the kids into going on peter pan with me. the older three have their parents AND two sets of grandparents here to dote on them, so they were not terribly interested in playing with me. (matt still loves me cos i can still toss him in the air and catch him :D) hopefully they will be feeling more playful by friday!
musics: kl and i made a semi-impulsive decision and drove up to cocoa on friday for damion suomi's little tour kick-off show thinger. it was super-fun! they showed a tour documentary from last year, which they kept referring to as a "film," which never stopped making me giggle. the boys are all super-adorable and dumb, which is just how i like them! after that, damion did a little q&a, during which he was endearingly earnest and funny and charming. then the band played the whole new album for us, which was exciting for a number of reasons! 1. this was our first time seeing the full band play together. 2. i had only heard about half those songs before. 3. the new arrangements on some of them are pretty cool. 4. we got to hear STORIES (it's a concept album about sort of going on a quest- y'all know i love quests AND concept albums!) and hear more about the journey the album takes you on. 5. i found out one of my favorite songs of his, which i feel like he has been playing live in various forms for AGES, is on the record. WEE! so then after they finished, we were making a beeline for the door and debating whether or not we should tell the band how much we appreciate them (in all fairness, the last time i told a member of damion's band how awesome he was, he seemed very FLUSTERED. but also i was kind of drunk at the time, so that might have all been on me. WHO KNOWS?), but then we had to circle back and ended up walking right by damion, so we thanked him andddd he apparently knows who i am? at least he called me by my name, indicating he knows me from twitter/tumblr, and not just as that weird girl who used to go to his shows alone and read books between sets. it's funny though, cos kl and i had JUST been talking about how we weirdly know so many people in town now, seemingly through no actual effort of our own! anyway, he thanked us for driving up from orlando and introduced himself to kl and was just generally very sweet. i have been a fan of this boy for 3 years now (!!) and i really can't wait for the new record. (APRIL FIFTH! 5/5! REMEMBER, REMEMBER, THE FIFTH OF--fuck!)
anyway, while we're on the topic, damion is now ON TOUR! the dates are here, and if you live in a dumb podunk town people don't usually tour in, check the dates cos he's taking a weird route through the country. and i uploaded all of his music for margaret yesterday, so if you want to check him out, it's all here. it won't be up forever (he is worth paying for!) but i know some people need incentive. the stuff with capital letters is his newer music, and the live stuff is from youtube rips from the first show of his i went to!
(also while we're on the topic? i went to his new label (hopeless) to see what they were all about. they have a valentine's ep, which damion has a song on, which i am excited about. but they ALSO have a bundle you can buy, that includes valentines from some of the bands on the ep. the one they show on the site says "DON'T TROUBLE YOU'RE PRETTY LITTLE HEAD, THERE'S ONLY ROOM FOR LOVE." i have already sent them a bitchy tweet. i mean, really?)
