JMU Bands Concert

Apr 29, 2007 22:14

Now that livejournal is mysteriously working again I can say...

We went to the JMU Spring Bands Concert today. It was a really all-around great concert. All of the bands sounded great, especially Scott's Concert Band. This concert was Dr. Rooney's last at JMU and so it was really special. They played Larry Clark's Shenandoah's Simple Gifts (much like the marching band arrangement we played in 1999 but longer and more suited for a concert band). It was amazing and Larry Clark was there to go up on stage after and give Dr. Rooney a big hug that ended with both of them crying...and thus, me getting teary too.

I was glad to be there to see his last hurrah in Wilson with the Wind Symphony, just as I was glad to see the last MRD performance with him. It truly is the passing of an era. I am glad and proud to say that I was a part of the Rooney era at JMU and I am very much the person I am because of the experiences I had there, many with him.

That being said, it was also good to see Scott (and his parents...a little ditty about Jim and Diane...), some brothers that are still kickin' and the JMU folk.

I am hoping that the livejournal continues to function so that I can get back into posting.

Much love to all of you gentle readers out there.
