It's Been THAT kind of week....

The Shits. Duke still has not passed his kidney stone and is in a lot of pain from it. It is makin him very Bearish... and I can't blame him for that. Since Tuesday a week ago, we have been to the ER 3 times, to his doc twice and the hospital once for the ultrasound, which the ultrasounder didn't know why she was doing it, so it appears that will ( Read more... )

*careful hugs*

I wish I could help, but I'm far from local.

In terms of the kidney stone - I'm sure Duke's already been told to DRINK WATER until his back teeth are floatin'... but in case he hasn't... the more water goin' through the works, the better the chance to get rid of the rock.

Very sorry to hear it. I hate to say it, but not everyone is meant to ride. Some people aren't wired for it. And I realize that's not a fun thing to consider. I like to say: once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. This is number 3 is it not ( ... )

This is number 3 is it not?
Please don't give me more spills that I've actually had - it's #2.

Thanks Otter, you have some good suggestions.

I had the bike in for new tires and some repair when I bought it. I asked them to look it over and check everything, but they only checked out the specific things I mentioned, despite quoting me a price to completely check it over. That is a good idea to have it checked out mechanically.

I've ridden over 60K miles on a Rebel so if I got on and it felt wrong I'd know it instantly.
Are you offering?

Maybe I'll try the dirt route, but first I'm going to see about some indivudual riding instruction to see if that will help.

Speakin of ridin bitch - I will be doin just that up to QBT - have you set a date for that yet?

Mmm, does 2 dumps include the adventure with Duke's trike? I guess that was odd enough that it didn't count. ;-)

QBT is going to be the last weekend of April, to catch the full moon. If we are rained out, then there will be a make-up event the last weekend of May. I'll be up there both times regardless, rain or shine.

Dumps - no I'm not counting the trike, I was unlearned at the time, which was the cause of that.

We'll be at QBT and hopefully no rain.

Thanks Growler.
Yes practice is what I need and I have found a good empty parkin lot to do it in. I'll give yer suggestion a try when I go out again, after everthing heals.

it sounds like you're not confident in the bike's ability to keep itself upright, and you're doing most of the work.

I thought about this last night - I think you've hit the nail on the head.
Thanks

I'm sure you just need some more practice and careful instructions :)

Duke needs to take more warm baths (and have warm bottle on the back too). Hopefully it all will pass soon

Funny you should say that. A few times when my kidney was aching so bad that I wanted to punch a wall, I jumped into the shower, turned it as hot as it would get, and aimed it right at the pain. In 30 minutes, it worked almost as good as a Vikodin.

*twitches his ears* well I did have sand there so... heat is part of the natural treatment in this condition.

Nope. I tried ordinary heat from a heat bag, and it didn't do what the shower did. Part of why the shower works is the massaging action that the stream gives.

Don't get discouraged, Rat. When I was learning, I dumped my buddy's bike doing a left-turn. I wouldn't ride it again--I didn't want to do any more damage. It was months later that I finally got the nerve to try again ( ... )
