[The post clicks on and for a few seconds there's nothing but silence. If you listen closely you can hear the faint rustle of leaves - you guessed it, this is another obligatory plant-post. There's a clatter as the communicator is being propped up on the floor, followed by a soft ripping sound. Not really disturbing or even unpleasant but still ( Read more... )

Exactly. Oranges, limes, mikan... they're all great sources of vitamin C.

You're so sweet.

But what's scurvy?

It's a disease caused by a lack of Vitamin C. It used to be pretty damn common out at sea and a lot of people died before they figured out the cause - fresh fruit is pretty damn hard to get when you're out at sea for weeks at a time so they just didn't bother bringing any.

Come to think of it... I'm surprised we haven't had any cases here.

Oh... that's weird. I'm glad there haven't been any cases here. That's kind of gross.

Scurvy is... pretty damn nasty. That's why it's so important to have a well-balanced diet.

I guess that makes sense. It makes cooking harder, though, doesn't it?

If you lack the proper training it can be pretty damn difficult, but it's really not as complicated as it sounds. Or maybe I'm just used to it!

Oh... You might just be used to it. Cooking's really hard!

It is a science, I can't deny that. You learn a lot along the way though and once you've picked up the basics the rest is easy.

Getting whacked over the head every time you get a cooking temperature wrong does wonders too!
