So this weekend I ran around in my new outfits, and it was great. I was a bit worried that the other costumers would be too much like costume nazis, that has been my experience with reenactors, but everyone were really nice. I also had the pleasure to share accomodation with the woman who's running Sweden's best store for historical fabrics. We had so much fun together, and I could only drool over the assortment of hats, books, patterns, fabrics and basically all kinds of historical stuff that she and her son had in their stand. Hopefully one day I will be able to afford using fabric that cost $40-50/meter because the quality is just wonderful. And also to hear her talk about how she researches and comes up with everything was just fascinating. I'm definitely hooked on this and I think that after my Endor Leia and Endor commando I'm definitely going to turn to more historical costumes for a while.
This was my day outfit
I'm happy with all the parts. The only small things would be to do some nicer trim for the hat.
For the evening I made this
The jacket is really wrinkles, which is because of my lack of time and the awful poly satin that I used. The skirt in a thick cotton satin was really nice though.
My plan for more 18th century costuming now is to make a new pair of stays, since my stays are way to big. I then want to make replace the pink jacket with something else that goes with the skirt, but at the moment I can't decide if I want more of robe anglaise or polonaise.
Btw, I loved my hair, too bad I couldn't get a good pic of it. It's all my own hair, the only thing I used for extra was a small cushion at the top that I pinned all my hair into. I totally looked like a troll the day after but it was well worth it.
