Wolf Park Pictures; Chef Bandrik

Sep 16, 2007 12:26

Did two big things yesterday: Went to wolf park and learned to cook spaghetti. Twenty or so nifty photos are behind the cuts!

Also, if you get a chance to look a the photos, comment on what you think. Do they look nice? Any suggestions? Recommendations?
Which one is your favorite? Mine is the last one I put a border around. ^^

Zack: There IS a picture of you in here! Why are you so VIOLENT?!
Gray: There's a picture of you too, getting eaten alive by wild coyotes!!

Either way, enjoy the pictures. I sure did enjoy taking them!

Started with an educational lecture to us volunteers and interns. Learned how to identify several skulls (cattle, horse, pig, dire wolf, wolf, coyote, and... fox!). I was able to identify the pig skull before anyone else - made me feel gooood. ^^  Also looked at different horns and antlers, their uses, etc. Basically, familiarized ourselves with the educational building.

After this, we had some wolf time. Got to go in with the main pack for the 2nd time ever. The wolves came over to check us out as we entered (in a group of about 10) and we scratched/petted them as we entered. I sat down on a log with a couple of the other interns.

The wolves wandered around between us. Three of them decided to greet me warmly by walking up and licking my face repeatedly! I didn't mind to bad, and their breath was actually decent (though had a hint of deer carcass...). One of the wolves was Reudi the omega, which is my personally favorite wolf. I don't know why, maybe it's his blue eyes, or I feel for the little guy. Or a gut instinct. But I love him! Eventually they wandered off to lay in the sun.

Lazy fluffy bastards!

It was almost lunchtime, but I went with Gray (
graywolf769) and Dana to go check on the two coyotes, Twister and Willow. I wasn't ready to enter with them yet, but I was allowed to pass the safety fence to the main fence to take pictures between the links.

Lick, lick, lick! Hey Gray, we gives you kisses, why push us away?

Coyotes get the good life here at Wolf Park

Cute 'n playful!

And... step! I love this picture. It would make a great "thank-you" card picture!

Lunchtime! Visited Gray's house, which he was renting the basement. It was a very nice place, with leather couches, fireplace, swimming pool, and finished basement. Gray had his place nice and picked up. ^^ We had turkey sandwiches and bagels. Also met the owner and fellow Wolf Park volunteer (think his name was Tom).

Back to the park, I was on cash register in the gift shop. Went well. I greeted the patrons warmly and though I was a bit of a klutz on the cash register, all went well and I helped the patrons feel welcomed to the park. Also answered any questions. When I wasn't working I paged through a book on red fox research.

When my shift was up, I shadowed one of the park tours. If I shadow enough, I can be qualified to give tours of my own! I took notes and answered questions some of the patrons had (even the rather silly ones). Snapped some fair-quality pictures on the way.

And the end of the tour, I noticed Ember the fox was laying in the sun really close to the enclosure fence. Photo opportunity time! I got permission to pass the outer fence and walk up to her and take pictures through the links (like the coyotes). Instead of being rather timid and shying away from me, she seemed to have no problem with me being there and accepted my presence. She even wandered around and kept coming back to say "hi" and look at me. Eventually she got sleepy and curled up under her shelter box.

A toad (or frog?) below the bridge that spans part of the pond

More aquatic creatures! These turtles were close to the toad.

And now, for a foxy montage!

Ember the fox, preparing for her close-up majesty

Ember peeks out at onlooking tourists - humans are so noisy!

A nice shot of Ember doubling back and looking behind her

There were several times we just gazed at each other...

Eventually she became sleepy - fatigued by all this daylight activity!

The fox is in her den now. Time for a nap...

Old man Basil is also rather sleepy as usual

Devon is also rather lethargic today

At this point, I was done, so I left for Tank (
tankthetiger), Agius (
agiusmage), and Zack's (
zachary_geminus) place.

I got there just as Agius and a few others were wrapping up their day and heading out. Tank was at Wal-Mart gathering materials to make spaghetti. During this time I had a good chat with my mom. Tank returned and proceeded to teach me how to cook spaghetti sauce from scratch.

Halfway through, I went out and brought back Alex and Alyssa. Alex baked up some frozen garlic toast, and then Zack showed up. We all ate the spaghetti, and it was VERY VERY GOOD. I ate too much and felt full all night long! Soon after, Snake (
snakeskurt) showed up and joined us in hanging out.

Zack didn't help cook, but he did make punch - oh the wit!

The results! Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic toast, and Caesar salad!

This meal makes foxes happy, and the ladies silly!

We watched some House MD on TV, and had a dessert of chips ahoy cookies and oreos with milk mixed with bananamilk flavoring. I did some homework, then left for home to finish the homework. What an awesome day!

Ember the Red Fox - Perhaps one of the most gorgeous photos I've ever seen.
Or taken, for that matter.
