Eek! I know. It's from Sacred (episode before last). He was tortured by some Maoist militants or ... something. I dunno. There were a lot of smallish Chinese men, running around and electrocuting people. A bit on the stereotypical side.
But yes. That image has stuck with me from the moment I saw it. I'm not as much interested in it from the perspective of why it happened, but just the imagery, and the metaphorical meaning behind it. I'm rather in love with that icon, truth be told.
And I kind of thought about putting a self-harm trigger warning on these, because they're so dark and violent, but ... I don't know. Should I have?
Nah. That would be, I think, too PC or something. I think (my conception of) your gut feeling of "maybe I could, but, uh, that's sort of strange to have to" is right on. Strange though it is, seeing a Self-Harm Warning on something is, at least for me, more of a trigger than just seeing angsty, tortured Lex, you know?
Yeah, you've got pretty good characterization of my gut. ;) And I think of it that way too, where it seems that maybe I shouldn't bring up self-harm just because there's blood or whatever, since bringing it up as little as possible seems to be the goal (and maybe they wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't mentioned it). It's just that ruedifference (and others) always carefully label these things, and I try to respect their wishes. But as someone who has basically no personal experience with self-harm, it's difficult for me to judge what's okay and what isn't
