an original poem by kb

i wrote a poem yesterday and posted it on a poetry community page, and i got a comment! i know i sound really dorky, but i was so excited that just one person had something semi-good to say about it that i had to post it on here. heregoes:

sunshine girl i used to know
she always seems so happy.
flashing her luminous smile to a passerby
circled around her coterie of friends
always laughing.
theres always something to laugh about.
she entertains in class
sharing funny stories from past weekends,
telling funny jokes from favorite tv shows.
she's almost a little too obvious with her laughter.
repeatedly glancing around the faces laughing back at her
to find mine
to see if i notice
her obvious happiness.
she can't fool me though.
i know when she is alone,
the sun no longer reflects the brilliance of her green eyes.
instead they are grey and overcast
i know she listens to the same sad music as me
when she drives home
i know that when she lies in her bed at night
she hesitates to turn off the light
because she has never felt more alone in the darkness
and when the sun rises again
she has to screw back on her smile,
brush her big white teeth
and wipe the shadow from her eyes...

she must be sadder than me to have to smile so big
she must be so sad to have to seem so happy
