Going to Ghana in three days. Whoo! Getting very excited about it.

Right now, the Idol gives back show is running on Swedish television. At regular intervals - whenever the celebrities aren't on screen - they are showing clips from Africa. And I'm sitting here thinking as I always do that god I want to do something for those kids. Those dark eyes looking at me through the screen.

And for the first time in my life, I'm actually going to do more than just give some money. (Not saying money isn't good, it certainly is, but I've always wanted to do something more hands on).

The orphanage I'm going to has no electricity and no running water. If I go to the capital of Ghana, Accra, there is electricity - but it's not exactly reliable. I cannot yet imagine what it will be like to not have electricity and running water. I'm used to showering every day, being on the computer every day, having light whenever I want it. Suddenly I'm going to a place where water comes in bottles and is a rarity, and where the kids have never seen a computer (much less an Ipod) and where, once the sun goes down, it's pitch black.

I'm going to see stars. That's gonna be so cool :)

So much of this is going to be so cool. Life changing and awesome and probably a little bit awful at some points, but...

I will be posting pictures once I get back, of course, if anyone's curious. I might be able to make a post or two in the weekends when I go to Accra, but beyond that, there will be radio silence for three weeks.
