“Crap!” Kazuya cursed while looking at his phone.

“What’s wrong, Kamenashi?” One of his colleagues asked with confused face. “You should put that phone down and enjoy the drink! You’ve worked so hard today, without you, we wouldn’t have gotten that client approval. Here, drink this.” He thrust a huge glass of beer to him.

“Thank you.” Kazuya didn’t want to drink. He definitely didn’t need a drink. What he needed at the moment was to call someone or he’d be doomed.

“Oi, what’s wrong?” Jin, his partner, asked. “You look so distressful. Even a workaholic needs to have fun, y’know.” He said, raising his glass of beer to invite Kazuya to cheers.

“Can I borrow your phone? Mine is dead, I have to text someone.”
Jin tilted his head slightly before reaching for his phone in his pocket. “Here.”

“Thank you.” Kazuya took the phone and walk to less crowded corner in the bar to send a text message.

When Kazuya got home, it’s already past 2 AM. He tried not to make so much noise when he opened the front door. He sighed in relief when he saw that all lamp were turned off, no one would stay awake at this hour anyway. Putting his key on the table before turning on the lamp, he’s startled by someone’s question.

“Where have you been?”

He turned around to see someone’s sitting on the sofa. He was his boyfriend, Ueda Tatsuya.

“Tatsuya, you’re startling me. I thought you’re sleeping already.”

“Where have you been, Kazuya?” Tatsuya repeated his question before. His tone was calm, his face showed no expression, flat. But Kazuya knew better than to judge his boyfriend emotion through his expression.

“I went drinking with some of my colleagues.” Kazuya answered with a calm tone, even though his heart-beat was far from being calm. “My phone died, low battery. That’s why I sent text to you with my friend’s phone. I thought it’d be better than didn’t inform you anything, right?”

Tatsuya didn’t answer.

Approaching his boyfriend, Kazuya was about to tell his boyfriend to just forget this matter and to invite him to go to sleep because it’s already too late when he heard Tatsuya speak again.

“Going home as soon as you finished your work is better than going out partying with your colleagues.”

Kazuya was too tired for this, what he needed at the moment was sleep.

“And who’s this friend whom you borrowed the phone from?” Tatsuya continued, standing up and moving closer to Kazuya who remained unmoving from his position in the middle of the room.

Kazuya could see anger flickering in Tatsuya’s eyes. “He’s my working partner, we were kind of successfully persuading our client to give the advertisement project to the company.” He brave himself to hold Tatsuya’s gaze, to show that he did nothing wrong.

“Your partner? Both of you seem so close to each other then?”

“Tatsuya, why don’t we just go to bed and sleep?” Kazuya almost pleaded.

“You didn’t answer.” Both of them were standing face to face in the middle of the room.

“Let’s go to bed, ok?” Kazuya said and was about to turn around to walk to the bedroom when he felt a grip on his hand, stopping him from moving.

“Answer me.” The grip tightened.

“Answer me, Kazuya.” Tatsuya said again with an authoritative voice. Kazuya kept his mouth closed. He knew that answering his boyfriend wouldn’t solve the problem.

“Why don't you answer me!” Tatsuya lost his composed behavior. He kissed Kazuya’s lips forcefully.

Kazuya struggled to free himself from his boyfriend, “Please Tatsuya, don’t do this.” Kazuya pleaded.

Tatsuya didn’t stop. He dragged Kazuya to their bedroom forcefully. Only Kazuya’s screams could be heard after that.

The next morning, Kazuya went to the office with a super tired face. All of his colleagues thought that it was usual for Kazuya to look this tired. Jin included, he knew Kazuya would probably continue working on the project as soon as he reached home after the celebration yesterday. But that was before Jin realized there was a small and faint bruise on Kazuya’s right cheek.

“Good morning.” Kazuya greeted when he noticed Jin’s gaze on him.

“Good morning. Didn’t get enough sleep?”

“Yeah..” He smiled weakly to Jin who noticed that something was definitely off with Kazuya that morning.

Kazuya was rather limping. He walked slower than usual and when he was going to sit down, Jin could see frown on Kazuya’s forehead, his distorted face showing that he’s in pain. Jin wanted to ask but Kazuya had started working. Facing his laptop with serious face. Jin sighed, he would ask on lunch break.

On lunch break, Jin saw that Kazuya was still working on something. That guy was famous as a workaholic but still Jin thought that he needed to eat or he would collapse. Thus, Jin walked to Kazuya’s desk.

“Let’s go get lunch!” Jin cheerfully said, closing Kazuya’s laptop, didn’t even bother to hear Kazuya’s protest when he’s dragged by Jin to the cafe near their office.

“So.. what do you want to eat?” Jin asked when both of them sitting at Jin’s favorite table at the cafe.

Kazuya didn’t respond, he’s still mad because Jin closed his laptop like that, good thing he had saved his work.

“Oi, Kazuya!” Jin waved his hand in front of Kazuya’s face, obviously trying to get his attention.

“What?” Kazuya asked with annoyed voice.

“I asked you, what do you want to eat?”

Jin was really getting into Kazuya’s nerves. “Kazuyaaaa~~!” Jin grabbed Kazuya’s hand. Kazuya almost hit Jin’s head for being an annoying bastard today. But when he saw Jin’s gaze on his wrist, he froze within a second.

Jin saw bruise and red mark on Kazuya’s wrist. Kazuya immediately pulled his hand from Jin’s grip. “A potato salad sandwich” That’s all what Kazuya said before they fell into silent.

Jin called the waitress and mentioned his orders. The image of Kazuya’s wrist with bruise and red mark still stayed on his mind, he wondered what had happened. He wanted to asked but he knew it’d be difficult to get the clear explanation from Kazuya.

Kazuya kept staring outside the cafe while Jin was deep in thought. The waitress came with their orders and then they ate in silence. Little did they know, someone was watching them from outside of the cafe.

When Kazuya got home, Tatsuya was the one who opened the door for him.

“I’m home.” Kazuya greeted tiredly.

Tatsuya didn’t reply to his greeting, yet he said something that almost made Kazuya’s heart stop. “Was that Jin that I saw with you at the cafe near your office?”

“Huh?”

“I went to your office to bring you lunch because I thought you’d be busy to get lunch by yourself.” Seeing that Kazuya didn’t respond, Tatsuya continued. “But when I got there, the receptionist girl said that you went out for lunch with your colleague. I told her I need to meet you and it’s very important. She told me you probably eat lunch at the cafe near the office.”

“Why are you looking so surprised, Kazuya?” Kazuya could see a smile grace his boyfriend face.

“I walked to the cafe near your office but before I entered that place, I already saw you eating your lunch with a guy.”

Kazuya pushed his boyfriend lightly because he’s blocking his way. “Did you follow me around?” Kazuya asked as he proceeded to remove his shoes, ignoring his boyfriend who was still standing near the entrance door.

“I didn’t. I just wanted to bring your lunch. I accidentally saw you with that ‘Jin’ guy.” Tatsuya folded his arms in front of his chest. “You two looked so close to each other.”

“He’s just my friend. Can’t I eat my lunch with my friend?” Kazuya started to feel extremely tired with this conversation.

“I didn’t say that.”

“Then what?” Kazuya retorted. He couldn’t keep this happening all over again with Tatsuya being jealous with no reason.

“I want you to stop lying to me, Kazuya.” Tatsuya’s voice dropped to dangerous tone. “You know you’re mine, right?” He asked Kazuya.

Kazuya didn’t answer to that which made his boyfriend felt ignored. “Answer me.” Tatsuya walked towards Kazuya and grabbed his hand.

Kazuya could feel his hand started to get hurt because the bruise hadn’t even healed yet.

“You can’t lie to me, Kazuya.” With that Tatsuya dragged Kazuya forcefully to the bedroom again. Kazuya was too tired to fight his boyfriend. It was going to be a long night again.

Since the day Kame went drinking with his colleagues to celebrate his success, Jin had been seeing him coming to the office everyday with tired face, bruises on his wrist, and sometimes on his cheeks. He’s limping too. Jin kept asking if Kazuya’s sick but the guy always answer him with ‘I’m okay’ or ‘I’m just tired, I only slept for 2 hours last night’. That answer clearly didn’t satisfy Jin’s curiosity.

Jin had his theory that Kazuya was a victim of violence or bullying. But he didn’t know who did that to him or why. Even though their colleagues might see them as best friend because they get along very well, Jin knew nothing about Kazuya’s private life. Kazuya almost never talked about his private life, aside from his apartment location.

Jin didn’t have any idea whether Kazuya was living alone or with his friend, whether Kazuya had a girlfriend or boyfriend? He didn’t know anything. Jin was deep in thought when he heard someone greeted him.

“Good morning.”

Jin saw Kazuya just walk in. The clock showed that it’s already five past nine, which meant, Kazuya was late. Kazuya was never late, so Jin found it super weird. What’s more weird to Jin’s eyes was the fact that Kazuya wore a scarf around his neck. Which person, on the right mind, would wear a scarf in the middle of summer? There was something fishy.

“Why are you wearing scarf in this kind of weather?” He blurted it out without even thinking.
Jin’s mouth was always faster than his brain.

Kazuya didn’t answer but Jin could see that Kazuya froze for a fleeting moment. After that, Kazuya focus himself with his work, ignoring Jin. “You came late.” Jin said.

Kazuya kept working, didn’t even turning his head to see Jin. “It’s unusual for you to come late.”

“Jin, do your work.” Kazuya finally said, eyes straight to whatever on the monitor of his laptop.

“That scarf looks ugly.”

“What?” Kazuya raised his eyebrow, finally looking at Jin. “What’s your problem with this scarf?”

“Uhm.. Nothing. I’m just wondering if you are trying to hide something under that scarf.” Again, Jin said that without thinking.

Kame gaped at that. Did Jin know? But soon Kazuya recovered from his shock and back to ignore Jin. Awkward silence hung over both of them after that. Jin didn’t pester him anymore. Kazuya felt kinda relieved. But he didn’t know that Jin had planned something to make Kazuya talk to him.

That evening, Kazuya didn’t expect to see Jin waiting for him at the lobby. “Can I come to your place?” That was what Jin said when Kazuya asked him why did Jin waiting for him.

“No.”

“Eh? Why? But I think it’d be good, we can work together tonight to finish the project soon!”

“No, Jin.” Kazuya stated firmly. “Besides, it’s already too late to visit someone’s house.”

“Friends can visit each other anytime.” Jin didn’t want to give up.

“See you tomorrow, Jin.” Kazuya bid him goodbye.

Jin just rolled his eyes before following Kazuya’s step. He had knew Kazuya wouldn’t let him to visit his apartment anyway so why stop only because Kazuya told him to not come.

Seeing that Jin already catch up with his step and now walking beside him, Kazuya growled in annoyance. “As far as I know, this is not the direction to your place, is it?”

“Are you being bullied by someone?” Kazuya halted his step after hearing Jin’s question.

“What makes you think that way?” Kazuya asked back and continue his walk. Seemingly not really bothered by Jin’s presence anymore.

“Isn’t it obvious enough? Well at least for me. You come to the office with bruises and red marks, and then you often come late, which is weird for a punctual person like you.” Jin began listing the fact. “That scarf is also very suspicious. I bet there are many red marks or bruises under that scarf.”

Kazuya stopped walking and looking at Jin’s face. Jin could see a slight of fear or worry or that could be a sadness too. “What?” Jin asked because Kame didn’t say anything.

Sighing, “You shouldn’t meddling with other people lives, Jin.” Kazuya said with serious face.
“But you’re my friend. Maybe, I couldn’t help you but at least I could be your listener or something. It’s not good to keep your problem only to yourself.” Jin only heard Kazuya’s sigh as a response before he began walking.

Both of them walked in silence. Kazuya didn’t protest, he didn’t say anything either. Jin was still persistent to make Kazuya talk to him.

If Jin remembered correctly, Kazuya’s apartment wasn’t that far from the office. He only needed to walk 15-20 minutes before reaching the place. So if his guess was right, they would reach Kazuya’s place soon. But Jin hadn’t gotten anything he wanted to know about Kazuya. He must find a way to prolong their walk.

Lucky to Jin, they passed a konbini. Didn’t want to waste this chance, Jin asked Kazuya. “If you don’t want me to visit your apartment, what about we go to that konbini, try to find something for dinner as you talk to me about whatever has been happening to you lately?”

“Jin, stop it!” Kazuya finally snapped. He didn’t understand why Jin seemed so keen to dig deeper into his private life. “It’s not that important for you to know.”

“What? That bruises on your body told me otherwise.”

“It’s too long and complicated to be told to you. I don’t want to bother you with my problem when we have more important thing to do like the project.” Jin knew the project was only Kazuya’s reason to get away from Jin’s question.

“I promise it won’t affect the project. I promise to work my as off for this project if you tell me what happen to you.”

“Jin.. urggh.” Kazuya growled. Jin knew he had won.

“So, let’s go that konbini!” Jin grabbed Kazuya’s wrist before walking to the konbini. But Kazuya stopped him.

“No, it’s too late and I need to go home. I’ll tell you tomorrow.”

“Promise?” Jin didn’t let go of Kazuya’s wrist.

“Promise.”

“Okay. Now let’s go.”

“Where?"

“To your apartment of course.” Jin said as a matter of factly.

“I can go home by myself. You should go home too.”

“Shhh.. Shut up, Kamenashi. I couldn’t sleep in peace if I didn’t see you enter your apartment safely tonight.”

Kazuya snorted but he let Jin walk beside him and started asking him about his progress for his part of the project. They were too preoccupied with their discussion, they didn’t realize a person was looking at them from inside the konbini with face full of anger.

“See you tomorrow, Jin.” Kazuya said when they arrived in front of his apartment building.

“Wait.”

Kazuya turned around and felt Jin gave him a friendly hug. “Whatever your problem is, Kazuya, I’ll be there for you.” Jin whispered it to Kazuya as he patted his back then Jin bid goodbye. Kazuya smiled.

After he opened his apartment door, he was quite surprised to hear no one answered when he said, “I’m home.”

He was too used to see Tatsuya waiting for him and asking him too many questions after he went back from work. Kazuya walked to the bedroom to check if Tatsuya was already sleeping, but he found no one when opened the bedroom door.

Oh well, Tatsuya probably went somewhere and would be back soon. Kazuya didn’t even bother to text or call his boyfriend. He actually felt glad Tatsuya wasn’t home because he finally could have a nice sleep.

Kazuya went to the bathroom to clean himself then dropped himself to the bed. His mind drifted to Jin and his plan to tell him everything tomorrow. Honestly, he wasn’t sure why he promised to Jin that he would tell him everything. But something in Jin made him feel comfortable, it wouldn’t hurt to share your problem with your friends, right? Jin probably could really help.

Kazuya’s mind kept running. He remembered that one night when Tatsuya made love - fucked him. He corrected himself. He was quite worried for Jin because his boyfriend said something like ‘Stay away from that guy. I feel like killing him when I saw him with you’. Kazuya was worried that Tatsuya would really do that.

That’s why he ignored Jin every time that guy approached him. But Jin was very persistent and Kazuya thought that if he was careful enough, everything would be okay. He sighed before fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Jin on his way home felt satisfied because Kazuya had promised him that he would talk to him tomorrow. But his happiness didn’t last long because he felt someone hit him from behind before he fainted.
