I cut his hair this morning, dressed him up in the new school outfit we picked out together and took several pictures of him at home, at the bus stop, getting on the bus and then again when he came home.
I walked around in a daze all day. I can't believe my boy is already in kindergarten! It feels like the end of an era.
I cried when the bus drove away.
There was another family at the bus stop and the lady cut my grieving short so she could tell me how I could get him off the bus sooner. I was both annoyed and grateful, if that makes any sense.
We went to pick Ryan up from work just after Julian got home, from there we went to Cracker Barrel to eat, because it is Julian's favorite place to eat and I wanted to continue to make his first day of school special. I think next week will be harder for him than this week because he gets all excited about new things and then worries about changes later.
He told me that he met his classmates and got to know their names, but that was not very important...I told him it was one of the most important parts of school, getting to know others.
He told me that the bus was pretty empty when they picked him up, maybe 10 kids, but very full when he came home, "probably 100 kids on there!" He goes to afternoon Kindergarten. We watched a show about estimating last week, Sid the Science Kid, great PBS show, and he thought estimating was neat at that time, so I told him that he had estimated the number of kids on the bus and that he was being very scientific. He told me no, that I was wrong, he had just thought up a number in his head and he did not want to be scientific. That was when I realized he was tired. Shortly after that, he fell asleep. I love my boy.
