Sometimes I just want to turn around to some of my friends and go "do you know how long it's been since I had sex with my boyfriend?"

I mean, proper, PIV sex, with no pain, no complications or anything. Just normal, enjoyable, relaxing sex.

Seven Months.

It all started in November, when I got put on antibiotics for my chest infection and they gave me thrush. Really bad thrush.

It took two months to get that cured, but then it still hurt when we did anything. Another month and a half went by and finally the GP gave up and referred me to the Gynaecologist. Finally, in April, I went to my appointment at the hospital, and they said it was probably that the muscle had become sensitive after my thrush, so I was put on dilators.

That there was two months cold turkey, whilst I worked my way through five unpleasant dilators - big white plastic dildos, solid and uncomfortable, to sort myself out. It's still not totally stopped hurting. In fact, the doctor warned that it might not and then I'll have to go on a nerve medication, as that is the latest theory.

Of course, now? I've got Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Every time we do anything, I need to go to the toilet. Sometimes I get both the pain and that feeling. Last night, J got back from a weekend away, started going at it and we had to stop in the middle so I could run to the bathroom.

We've been going out for about 19 months. We've been having sex for 13 months. Seven of those have been spent with pain and bowel difficulties. Six months, of a nearly two-year relationship, where we have been able to have sex without any problems. And three of those were over the summer holidays, so we were in different cities.

He's been wonderful about it all, but I feel so terrible. We keep having to stop, because it's hurting for me. It must be so frustrating for him since as far as he can feel everything's dandy.

I've got another GP appointment on Thursday so hopefully the bowel thing will be sorted. Or at least on its way.

But bah. Bah.
