/if you’re taking me to hell, do it well/

My throat is scratchy and my palms are sore. Three concerts in a row will do that to you. It didn’t end up being 4, I got some dates confused and a show got cancelled, but 3 was more than enough.

Thursday at the Blue Chair Café was the first night of Women in the Round. It was totally awesome. Well, my mom got too drunk and was kind of embarrassing, but otherwise it was good. Of course the fact that there were only like 12 people in the audience, that was a bummer. But the food was great and the ladies were fantastic. They’re all sweet, talented performers.

The second night was at Prism. Wow, insane. The bar was packed and loud, they just wouldn’t shut up. I guess it’s turned into a bit of a hot spot since the Roost’s closure, who knew? So a lot of people were there who had no idea that anyone was playing and made it their job to talk over top. The concert was still great though and the ladies were a lot fun.

Apparently I was on the guest list for both shows, I didn’t know. Ha! So I bumped into Julie Lloyd, human rights lawyer, queer activist, Laurie Blakeman campaign worker and hero-crush extraordinaire. She said the gals were staying at her place and that we should come back to hear them play a few songs after the show. So cool! I felt all fancy, it was really neat.

We headed over there for a bit but everyone was falling asleep. Julie sang and played a bit a long with the girls. It was all around cool. Her and her wife are awesome people and I love hanging with older lesbian couples. Not really older, 40-something, but I love seeing normalized, queer, female, long term couples. Too many of the lesbian relationships I see are obviously non-permanent.

The only downer was I started feeling sick. We said our goodbyes and made it to the car, then I started throwing up. I hope no one saw, I really didn’t want them to think I was just wasted or something, I was already the youngest at the party by far and was getting many jokes thrown in my direction. I threw up a whole lot back at Sarah’s as well, not quite the ending either of us had hoped for. I think it was sinus related. Fuck you snow in spring and climate change!

The Oysterband show was amazing tonight. I could gush lots, but no one knows who they are. They are basically tied for favourite band with Tegan and Sara in my books. I haven’t seen one of their concerts since I was 5, I don’t even remember it. My mom says I’ve been listening to them since I was in the womb. They’re from Britain and almost never come here. They played a flat out incredible concert at Festival Place. A great mix of old hits and new stuff. They did a signing after. I got the set list from the sound guy and had them to autograph it.

SO. COOL. :D:D:D
