Doin' a little dance

I've noticed a disturbing tendency lately to use my title as the first sentence or half-sentence of my entries. I wish to avoid this, in the same way that I wish to avoid the phrase "ragged breath" or its cousin "ragged sigh" in my creative writing. Now then, I've something of a bulleted list here.

  • Writing goes well. Ether Street is at 110,000 words and climbing; things are coming to a head, the roles that all the supporting characters will play in the finale are thoroughly established, save for Riley and Kamal, who are about to go wake Chris up from being knocked out with a cordless phone, that they might receive their orders, and Charlie, whose role will be very important and somewhat unfortunate.

  • For the moment, Ether Street finds itself on hold. Not because I don't know what's going to happen, but because my attention has been caught by a short story idea, which mutated into something even bigger and more joyous; while still a short story, "Live from the Serpent Room" turned out to star a familiar face, and reveal certain details of the Mirror-verse that were not forthcoming in Done With Mirrors

  • I saw the film production of Rent last night; I should note that I had never seen any production of Rent prior to that, and I'm glad I did finally see it. It was really, honestly, very good. I even teared up a little at the appropriate moments (which to remain spoiler-free I'll gloss over rather than enumerate).

  • Of course, if the Link icon is coming out, that means it's NERO time (because really, The Legend of Zelda is kind of like a digitized NERO game, moreso than Final Fantasy). I just wanted to say that the rumors of a new NERO chapter have ideas for Balo's fate after the end of Garrenshaw have been spinning in my head, and I think I may have something of a cohesive idea. The important part being that I'm going to give the poor guy about 200 years to stew, adventure, and grow up into what I wanted him to be before I unleash him on an unsuspecting NPC camp. How to accomplish the two-century time disparity, now, that's a tricky one, but I have my ideas...I'll have to run them by Warlock, and I may post them here later as a sort of group writing exercise...something to help me pound the kinks out. And because you people are a bunch of geeks. :P

  • The Dark Tower is still awesome.

  • For those who are curious, my first reader is still being a dink. I'm going to send him an email saying I want the chapters over the summer, like, at the beginning, because I do not want to extend this past Fall 2006. If he can't do that for me then I'm finding a new god-damn first reader, I have no end of swear words for how lame this experience has been made and I think I've made some pretty hefty concessions as far as his puerile timetable goes.

  • A final bit of gaming-related information: I am very jazzed about Forsaken. I think I have at least the first three chapters of Story One ready in some great detail, and Episode Two and Three have at least some basic concepts set out (I expect six or seven episodes, each composed or 3-5 chapters, each chapter intended to be a 4-hour gaming session in length, but I am totally willing to for more if ideas and willing players are in evidence). Forsaken folk, there will be a Forsaken scheduling post following this one, take heed. :) Having multiple creative projects to work on seems to be the best way for me to conduct my life. Good thing it's what I want to do for a living.

  • I am going to Mendocino this weekend, leaving tonight after work and staying through Saturday, departure time dependent upon rain, so if I'm out of contact it's because I'm up there. I am very excited about seeing my mother for a little while, so this is definitely a Good Thing.

  • And finally: I'm considering looking into writing for gaming companies professionally, in a flavor text/background capacity, not in a rules capacity (I'm good at comprehending rules but can't create them to save my life). If anyone hears of any openings of any sort, please do let me know; it's probably a pipe dream, but it's a neat idea, I think.

  • I like bullets.

Okay, that's enough; I need to make that Forsaken post and get the heck out of here.
