Historic Day They Say

OBAMA WINS!

And for those that either do not believe me or completely fail to watch the news... go here or here.

Philippine presidential elections are um... crazier than that. But this was certainly nail biting. What the Philippines has over the US elections is the added factor of an action movie type drama. The US elections was like a Hotel Rwanda-ish type movie, you know the inspirational human triumph over human failure movie.

It's interesting, this article.

For someone who's new to the political beat (i.e. Comelec) I've always considered our elections as crazy. As in I want to be out of my beat by 2010 before I'm killed there. Although I'd really like to do that story on what we can learn from the US elections, but it seems most Comelec officials are observing the elections in questions.

The US elections has always been mired with less than impressive voting numbers. Mostly because their votes don't always count, don't let Hollywood kool-aid you into believing all that jazz. And now that they are getting more people to vote, they have glitches. Ha! It's called poetic justice.

And funny too that I realize I do not know any political conservatives. My friends are mostly reporters, debaters or apathetic. If you looked at my Y!M during the run up to the results, you would've noticed that most of my friends are Democrats. I wouldn't say liberal (raise your hand if you are, because I am proud to say I am) but there was no political stat message proclaiming support for the redder side of things. It might mean I need new friends, hehehe.

The reporters in the CBCP media office were overwhelmingly supportive of Obama too, aside from the few that are Hillary supporters or follow the predictions.

Makes me think if we do vote the same way in our elections. None of our politicians are labled as easily as a conservative and a liberal. Our multiple party system blurs the line between the grays. I know I will vote for politicians that would push for women's rights. But do I actually vote liberal? I don't think so. To be fair the last time I voted was in 2004 because I was in Indonesia for the last elections.

So, because Obama made me lose concentration on work, I leave you with a quote; Reject the myth of your generation's apathy. Bow.
