Yesterday was sheer insanity. Another good distraction for a few hours. In my father´s hometown they have this festival for Carnival that is like no other... ancient and... absolutely insane.
And I have more pictures.
Firstly, Asier, my dear cousin, dressed up as a Momorocho (or something close to that). It´s basically an old story that they tell kids, the Momorochos will get you if your bad!!! Oh, and that´s real blood on him, BY THE WAY. yeah, it´s part of the costume. They are pretty terrifying, though. I can only imagine being a little kid and this comes running up at you...
I think he was stabbing me with his pitchfork in that first picture...
Also, this is the house where my dad grew up. How fucking cool is that?!?
The parade... you can see a little boy dressed up as the moster too. :)
This guy was going around with live chickens... I still don´t understand why, really, but it was awesome.
The crowd of horns and hide...
A little round up of the various musicians in the parade. You have to imagine everyone yelling and singing and playing instruments to get the full effect...
Aforementioned pitchforks... covered with blood. It really kind of a... gruesome spectacle...
This guy was dressed up like a frickin giant, he was easily three times my width with all his padding and i got him to look at my camera!!!
A bunch of girls dressed like witches...
Now I´m not sure if this was a real pig body, but they had put a light in it so that it glowed through the eyes and mouth. Very creepy...
More parade...
Now in the center square everyone gathers for the main ceremony and dance thing... but we couldn´t see anything. My camera saw a bit more than me...
Miguel jokingly suggested that I climb the tree in the plaza since I like to climb so much, and as I so love to do when people make jokes about what we *could* do, I decided to do it. He gave me a boost and about 30 people were staring at me like I was insane, a few saying "No! NO! Don´t climb the tree..." But I made it, I saw much better, and I was very proud of myself as it was not the easiest tree to get on to. Hey, I´m never gonna be able to see this again probably, so gotta seize the fucking day, right? hence the tree branches you catch here on the corners...
Then we ran into Asier again... or should I say he RAMMED into me, yelling and running full speed with his pitchfork... he´s such a nut case. I love it.
Here´s everyone who was there until the end: Miguel, Tia Maribel, Julian, Tio Santi, and my cousin Blanca.
Though I should mention that at the beginning of the night we also has Tios Jose Antonio, Marisa, Ketchu, Goyore y Carlos.
And the last awesome thing I saw, was an old-fashioned plow rigged to one of the guys in the monster suit!
There was a lot more but then my camera ran out of batteries! D´OH!
