Finally catching up!

It's been a busy week. The reunion was fun. It was great to see so many of my old friends and acquaintances. It was the first time in a long time that MOOSE, Squid, The Grand Dragon, and The Enforcer have all been in the same place at the same time. I do have some gripes... we were told we'd have the entire facility, but when we arrived we were informed that we only had the bottom floor; we were told we'd have an open bar, but that only lasted until sometime between 10 PM and 11 PM, making it a cash bar until the end of the event at 2 AM; and the DJ was spinning 80s tunes as advertised, but was unwilling to turn down the volume so that we could hear each other talk, and he was unwilling to take requests and complained about how we were getting "in his face."

I didn't get to hang around on the trip. I flew in on Friday, hung out with the family on Saturday, attended the reunion that night, and flew home on Sunday. There wasn't a lot of opportunity to do anything special with Amelia and William besides doing a bit of lightsaber fighting, reading, and showing them how I could watch hockey games streaming to my laptop. I then had to put in a normal week at the office. We've got another deadline coming up soon on our project, and Joe's got one coming on his, so our shared office is getting visitors from both project teams coming in as we're all trying to keep the lines of communication open with the other developers on our teams.

I have until the 31st to get my part of this code done for this release. This coming week, I will have a medical appointment on Tuesday morning (I have no idea how long it will take) and a dental cleaning scheduled for Thursday morning. On Friday, the company will have its annual Halloween cookout. I haven't had a chance to make a costume this year, so I'm just going to wear my "Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult" t-shirt.

RoundCon 2011.1 is happening right now. I had a lot of fun at the 2011.0 version in February, but I just couldn't afford the time or money to attend both the reunion and that con. I'll try to make it in 2012.

I ran V&V today. I adapted a scenario from M&M about a mad scientist and some robots attacking a bridge. I figured that since two of the characters have powers that can destroy, short out, or take control of robots, and the other two can deliver loads of damage either accurately or to a large number of targets at once, this wouldn't be as challenging as it would to some other groups. Unfortunately, Joe couldn't roll a hit to save his life, and when he did, he'd fail to destroy the robots. Ramón showed up late, Jen got distracted by the scientist when she would have been way more effective against the robots, and Jonathan had to leave at 3:30, and his character was knocked out shortly thereafter anyhow. At any rate, the scientist got away but all the robots were destroyed, and there wasn't much damage done to the bridge.

So, that's what's going on with me. How are you doing?
