My boss got us all passes to the Miss India USA pageant that was held here in Glendale, CA. The drive took us about half an hour, give and take the now ever-so-reguar 10-minute waste of time having lost the route completely. The early part of the evening was spent waiting for
Jolly to turn up on time.
Jason was the first to get there, it was obvious that would be the case since he lived the farthest from Glendale. Tripti had reached too, leaving just the really interested ones in me and Jolly to make an entrance late into the evening.
But being the desi show that it is, it started off late and we made it just in time for the start. A suave Reshma Dori opened up proceedings with her co-host Pooja Batra, who looked like a million bucks. Ms. Batra has settled down in LA with her hubby and is making quite a splash in socialite parties these days, it was learnt. The 10 minutes we spent in the same room as Ms. Batra and one Ms. Amisha Patel was worth the ordeal. Ms. Patel is al of 5 1/2 feet, and spent the entire evening with a plastic smile. Pooja Batra, on the other hand - God bless those legs !! Enuff said.
A couple of our picks from the 15 girls finished in the top three. The winner was unexpected, and quite unconvincing even after a quick chat with the girl in the after-show party. A bit of a dampenner when Katrina - nicknamed by us after her uncanny resemblance to the beautiful Ms. Kaif - did not even finish in the top 3.
Overall, it was an evening well spent. Bollywood seems to be showering celebs on desi cinema-starved Indians in Los Angeles. AR Rahman and his troupe are gonna be here next weekend to mesmerize us with their melody - Shankar Mahadevan's energy will be missed though. Looking forward to next week.
