Filled Cupcakes: An excursion in tip futility

Apr 13, 2014 20:18

I had two occasions to bake cupcakes this week and after viewing some videos on youtube I managed to bite off more than I could chew. It all started with a birthday party. I offered to bring German Chocolate cupcakes. As I am a terrible cupcake froster, I watched numerous videos on using tips in an attempt to make a more picturesque cupcake. While in the course of this research I found a video on filling cupcakes. Can you guess what I attempted? Yes, I did attempt to both fill cupcakes and frost them using tips.
German Chocolate Cupcakes
Lesson Learned Number 1: No matter what the videos say about chunky fillings, no tip will actually work. It was easier to just use the coupler alone without a tip at all. It may have actually worked better.
Lesson Learned Number 2: Even with practicing, I cannot frost cupcakes. It was easier to frost and then cover up my "handy-work" with a bunch of shredded coconut.
Lemon Raspberry Cupcakes
Lesson Learned Number 1: Even when you think you used too much lemon you can and should use even more.
Lesson learned Number 2: Raspberry filling also comes out of a coupler much better than a tip.
