FINALLY, AN UPDATE! He was due for one 8|a

Updated on July 22nd, 2011

BODY & APPEARANCE.

⒈ Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?

5'7" and built like a gymnast! He's limber and looks fairly small, but don't let that fool you. He is also an athlete, and therefore has some muscle on him. It's just not outwardly obvious
⒉ How old is he?

Seventeen when he arrived in Johto, and technically eighteen seeing as a birthday has passed. Hoooowever, when he returns home, he'll still be seventeen, and he isn't sure he counts the birthday he spent here anyway.
⒊ Describe his posture. Does she carry himself well or does she slouch?

That depends. As Kaito, his posture is pretty relaxed. He's a very casual guy, which mean she slouches a bit and stands around with his hands in his pockets. As Kid, this changes, since a phantom thief should carry himself tall and proud. Though even as Kid, he stands around with his hands in his pockets. Habit!
⒋ How is his health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?

Very healthy, very much in shape, no disabilities or abnormalities!
⒌ How does he move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?

Again, that depends. He's relaxed and silly as Kaito, movements chaotic yet fluid (usually spastic and wild, too). As Kid, it's all about grace, and he tends to be less outwardly chaotic and more composed. Kaito isn't really the clumsy sort and generally has excellent composure, but sometimes when he missteps or something takes him off guard, his poker face gives away to clumsy flailing. In dire situations he can catch his footing easily, but in more ordinary situations he just kind of. Fumbles a bit. For comedic effect.
⒍ How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?

Kaito is definitely handsome! In canon, he's apparently very popular with his female classmates despite being oblivious to the crushes they may have on him. He is confident in his looks, too, not to the point of narcissism or arrogance, but he does have his moments where he thinks he is pretty good-looking.
⒎ Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?

Medium, not too light, not too dark? Pretty normal for a Japanese kid his age, I think. His face and other immediately visible areas are clear, but once you reach his upper arms and torso you will find many smaller, barely noticeable unless you're up close scars from being nicked by glass shards during heists. There are not SO MANY that it's alarming and one would have to be looking really close to see them, but they're there. He also has a much larger scar on his right shoulder from being shot by Robo-san, and a smaller, but still large scar on the side of his upper left arm from being nicked by a Snake bullet. These scars probably look pretty distorted, seeing as how he didn't seek professional medical aid for them.

Also, he has Johto scars! Mostly from when the Pineco blew up in his face :c There is one on the right side of his scalp, though it isn't exactly visible because of his hair. There may also be one on his upper left thigh from the same incident, though it's also not visible because lol pants/shorts. And since he actually did receive professional medical care for these injuries, they're not as large as his non-Johto scars are.
⒏ Describe his hair: color, texture, style.

Dark brown, almost black at times. Thick, yet soft. Crazy wild, always sticking out in random directions and looking like all he did was wake up and run his hands through it. In reality, he totally uses a comb. It just doesn't work. AND NOT A SINGLE DIGNITY WAS HAD THAT DAY.
⒐ What color are his eyes?

Blue
⒑ Does the character have any other noteworthy features?

Other than what was already mentioned? Nope.
⒒ What are his chief tension centers?

Hands, actually. He's always always using them, being a magician and all, and when he's upset or angry he has a tendency to clench them. He also fidgets with them a lot when he's sitting still (anything from shuffling a deck of cards, to playing with a coin between his fingers). He's far too young for them to start hurting on him randomly, but I can totally see some bouts of arthritis when he gets older!
⒓ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?

Very casual, and he doesn't really give much thought to ~*fashion*~ or anything fancy like that. In the summer, T-shirts covered by short-sleeved jackets (with pockets) and cargo shorts will work for him just fine. In the winter, beat-up blue jeans, bulky sweaters, and casual collared shirts are ace. So long as the article of clothing has pockets (both because he rests his hands in them and because he needs them to hold his magic effects, which he carries around with him EVERYWHERE), he is a happy boy. He wears his clothing sloppily too, with his collars unbuttoned and his shirts untucked. NO FUCKS ARE EVER GIVEN ABOUT WRINKLES, EITHER.

Kaito is capable of cleaning up, as Kid proves. He doesn't mind ~*fancy suits*~ or ties or more formal wear since he knows it's a requirement of his job. But on a daily basis, clothing is clothing and WHATEVER I WILL WEAR WHAT I WANT.
⒔ Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?

His everyday wear fits just fine, and he seems perfectly okay with it, so yeah, he's confident. His Kid suit, on the other hand, is slightly big on him to the point of where he rolls up the cuffs of his pants and it still pools over the heels of his shoes. NO FUCKS ARE GIVEN ABOUT THIS, obviously. He still wears it confidently.
⒕ Does he dress the same on the job as she does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?

I think I basically answered this, hur hur. Kaitou Kid is his job, his job has a separate uniform reminiscent of a super hero masked caper thing, so nope!
⒖ You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?

BOXERS with little clovers on them.

SPEECH.

⒈What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?

He has a masculine voice, obviously... kind of average for a kid his age? It's not SUPER DEEP (if it was he wouldn't be able to mimic female voices), but it's obvious he's been through puberty. It's a pretty smooth voice, too.
⒉ How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?

As Kaito, very casually. He uses lots of slang and shortened words ('kinda' instead of 'kind of,' 'dunno' instead of 'don’t know,' and a simple 'm to replace 'I’m' and such), and his tone is normally mischievous and playful. He sounds pretty confident when he speaks and doesn't hesitate often, unless he’s addressing a serious subject or is being pressed to talk about something he doesn't want to talk about. As Kaitou Kid, his speech is much more formal. He still uses contractions but the slang is completely dropped, and he enjoys adding a ~*poetic touch*~ to his words to confuse people and seem more ~*mysterious*~
⒊ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?

Nothing distinct in his normal voice, no. He can imitate any accent easily though, so when he speaks a foreign language, he speaks it clearly and without the Japanese influence on his words.
⒋ What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?

MULTILINGUALISM!!1 Lucky him. He speaks Japanese (native language), English (taught in school), and French (taught by Chat Noir) fluently. He knows a few words and phrases of other languages, like German, Spanish and Italian, buuut that's his limit.
⒌ Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?

If he’s impersonating someone, disguising himself as someone, or heisting in a foreign country he'll change his dialect/language/speaking style to fit whoever he's pretending to be, but otherwise he doesn't shift it on a normal basis.
⒍ Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?

He is good at impromptu! He has to be, just in case his plans go completely haywire.
⒎ Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?

He can be eloquent, even if his word choices are casual and succinct. He has no problem conveying what he wants to convey through speech, especially as Kaitou Kid. OF COURSE, Kaito isn't nearly as smooth as he wishes to be all the time, and he can stutter when he gets embarrassed or flaily or grumpy, which. Happens much more often then he would like.

MENTAL & EMOTIONAL.

⒈ How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?

Highly intelligent, both book-wise and street-wise. He has a 400 IQ (or so canon tells us, idk man) and a very good memory (eidetic!!). He's witty, clever, intuitive and able to improvise when dealing with critical situations, though he does prefer to have a plan beforehand and follow said plan (CONTROL FREAK). ALL OF THAT SAID, he does have a case of the shounen stupids, which means he is likely to throw caution to the wind and do INCREDIBLY DUMB THINGS like... call his best friend flat-chested, or nearly get himself shot. The most intellectual of geniuses always have a downfall...
⒉ Does she think on his feet, or does she need time to deliberate?

He prefers to have time to plan things out, particularly when heisting, as one wrong move could mean dooooom. He is kind of a control freak in this regard, and when it comes to heisting he is meticulous about making sure every piece is in place and isn't coming apart anytime soon. He can think quickly on his feet though, and although he gets pretty internally irritated when he has to throw his plans away to think of one on the fly, he doesn't exactly mind doing this. MAKES THINGS MORE FUN SOMETIMES.
⒊ Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?

He can think logically when he wants/has to, and even has, on several occasions. Even so, Kaito prefers to use intuition and idealism over logic and practicality. He is very GO WITH YOUR GUT in certain situations and generally scoffs at the notion that logic governs everything, which makes it fairly easy for him to go along with concepts like 'real magic' and 'Pokemon' and whatnot. He’s a magician, his entire existence depends on creativity, so! Plus, he likes to stretch the laws of both physics and logic, and you can't enjoy breaking the rules of reality without thinking outside the logic box.
⒋ What kind of education has the character had?

He's a second-year high school student, so. He still has a ways to go.
⒌ What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?

Magic, thievery, disguise and gems. Kaito excels in any area that helps him be a better magician and thief, and he excels in these areas well. He's an accomplished magician, a damn good thief, a master of disguise and trickery, able to determine the difference between fake gems and real ones and even create convincing fakes, and an amateur inventor (card gun and hang glider, anyone?). HOWEVER, even so, all of these abilities are on a human level and subject to human error-- even he isn't perfect. As for things he wants to learn more about... well. He's pretty open, so long as it doesn't ruin any good mysteries!
⒍ Is he an introvert or an extrovert?

Oh geebus the biggest extrovert. Though despite this, getting to really know Kaito beyond his cheery and playful exterior is surprisingly difficult, and though he may have a lot of friends on the surface, he keeps everyone at a healthy distance. He talks to people often, but he doesn't really talk to them about anything deep. He is not in the business of sharing feelings.
⒎ Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?

Kaito's temperament is pretty even, and he's usually seen in his default state: laid-back and cheerful with just a mite of mischief in his eyes. He doesn't get angry easily, though he does have quite a few grumpy buttons you can press. And when he gets angry, he gets angry.
⒏ How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?

Kaito enjoys exploring new situations and meeting new people thoroughly. Depending on the circumstances behind these new situations and people, he might be relaxed and enthusiastic, or sarcastic and wary. People who seem friendly would get a friendly greeting in return, while those who are threatening others or generally being dicks would get a sarcastic quip or two. Johto has fallen into the former category, being a cheerful world that only has mutated monsters to boast of, though after certain events he has become somewhat wary of Pokemon-land in general (it's happy most of the time, but it has its darker moments). He's taken to exploring his surroundings very thoroughly to both understand them more and find a way out, and he always explores a town/route/area to the highest possible degree.
⒐ Is he more likely to act, or to react?

Act. Kaito can be impulsive, and sometimes he'll jump into situations head first without thinking, if they’re dire enough. Even if he takes time to plan, he's still likely to take action first rather than wait for something to happen to him.
⒑ Which is his default: fight or flight?

Depends, actually. Most of the time, it's flight while running circles around whoever is pursuing him to confuse them (much like a fox, really). If someone he really cares about is in the line of danger, he'll leap into the fray and fight with everything he can, even if he's not naturally a fighter.
⒒ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?

Hahaha his sense of humor is... a bit childish. He loves pulling pranks, and he laughs at slapstick comedy and ridiculous, idiotic situations all the time. He also thinks it's amusing to needle and tease people and generally be a jerk, sob. Also he flirts a lot, so he'll make comments like 'nice panties' or 'nice skirt' or 'you look cute today' and get a kick out of watching the girl react sob.
⒓ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?

None!
⒔ What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?

His father's death was the first major incident that defined him. It pretty much solidified his future as a magician, as it encouraged him to practice and perfect his magic as much as possible. It was also the incident that saw him utilize his poker face in real life, not just during magic shows, and caused him to recede into himself into this state of PRETENDING EVERYTHING IS OKAY NOW instead of encouraging him to talk out and deal with his problems like a big boy. The moment he found out his father was Kaitou Kid was another one, since that encouraged him to take up his mantle and continue where Toichi left off, and that basically kicks off the entire series.. Basically... most, if not everything, Kaito does is because of his dad. Ergo, it can be said that Kaito's father was the single most influential thing in his life.
⒕ What does he fear?

FISH!!1 He also has a fear of not being able to protect those he cares about, and a fear of losing those he loves like he lost his father, but that's a much more subtle fear. Kaito is reallybad about losing people so when he does, it... really affects him deeply, even if he doesn't let on that it does.
⒖ What are his hopes or aspirations?

His biggest goal in life right now is to find and destroy Pandora, and he will do almost anything to achieve this (including alienating his best friend and continuing to heist though he knows it hurts her). He puts his dad and his mission to his father above everything else, which is proving to be an issue now that he's been in Johto so long... especially when he has people he doesn't necessarily want to leave behind but he knows he has to, and he is not beyond being honest with these people and telling them he wants to go home. Barring that, he really wants to become a famous international stage magician to pay homage to his father and showcase his skills! This is a much more innocent goal.
⒗ What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?

Kaitou Kid, hands down. Though part of him does want people to find out just so he doesn't have to be so secretive about it all the time. It's just that part that doesn't win out in the end. It is a secret he holds very near and dear to him and it will take a lot for him to admit it to someone freely. Like, we're talking crazy levels of trust here, levels that really aren't reachable by many people. And even then he might not ever bring it up (he trusts Aoko wholly and without restraint and keeps it from her, after all).

He has only voluntarily told five people in Johto about Kid, three of which have gone home. Kay was told because she was the only person he knew who really got it on a level that most couldn't because she went through the exact same thing. Johan was told because he had vowed to always have Kaito's back, and after telling Kay (and asking Kay if he could trust Johan), he bit the bullet and took a leap of faith. Byrne was told because LOL KAY'S DAD, and while Byrne was not a replacement father in any way he did kind of remind him of his own papa... and he only thought it fair he inform the original Yatagarasu of what kind of people his daughter was dealing with. Heather was told because she spilled a lot about Silent Hill to him after the hallucination event, and in a conscious attempt to be more open with people, he took another leap of faith and was rewarded wheeee. And finally, Crow was told because he had known Crow for an entire year, knew that Crow was another leg of the Yatagarasu, and knew that Crow wouldn't judge him for thievery-- although he did expect to be punched for keeping it to himself for so long cry.

Right now, no one else in Johto is really anywhere near being informed of Kid. He kind of wants to tell Rise, especially after she opened herself up to him about her Persona, but despite being given positive feedback on coming clean with the Kid story with everyone else he still has that naturally hesitancy that is keeping him back. That, and he is VERY unsure how she'll respond and doesn't want to like... make her pissed at him.

RELATIONSHIPS.

⒈ Describe this character's relationship with his parents.

THIS IS HEADCANON BUT Kaito has a very good relationship with his mother! I think she knew about Toichi being Kid and knows about Kaito picking up his mantle too, though I don't think she speaks this fact out loud. Kaito is aware of it and is grateful she doesn't call him out on it, and because of that he's pretty considerate and tries not to worry her with his night life. Since Kaito was a little boy who had to watch her cry so much over the death of her husband (which kind of instilled him with the BE STRONG FOR MAMA!!1 mentality), I also think he has come to be almost protective of her sometimes. She exasperates him occasionally because she is such a tease and that makes him grump, but overall? He's cool with her. His relationship with his father was also highly positive before Toichi died! Toichi was the one who taught Kaito everything he knew about magic, poker face, and life, and Kaito has nothing but the highest respect and regard he can for the old man. Toichi has influenced Kaito the most out of any of his relationship, particularly taking into account the whole LOL MAGICIAN and LOL KAITOU KID thing.
⒉ Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?

No siblings; Kaito is an only child.
⒊ Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?

Nope.
⒋ Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?

The list of people Kaito considers family is fairly short, though that doesn’t mean those who haven't made this list aren't people he cares about deeply. He just cares about them in a friendly way, not a familial way. As for the people on this list... canon-wise, Ginzo and Jii are respected to the point of almost being considered surrogate fathers. Ginzo was there for him when Toichi died, and Jii is there for him whenever he needs help with Kid-related things. Aoko was always considered family too, buuuuut he never really saw her as a sister, or even someone blood-related. She's like... 'the girl who was always next door' to him, someone who was there for all the important events a family member would be there for, but he never considered himself to be related to.

In Johto, Kaito has a very brotherly-sisterly like rapport with Rise in the sense that they both pick on each other and argue WITHOUT SHAME and have no problem with it, though he has never consciously viewed her as a sister. He has a sort of BIG BROTHER PROTECTION-like instinct for Cocona and Yayoi too, though again, he has never really thought of them as 'family' consciously. Kay was definitely beginning to feel like a twin sister to him, inciting protective feelings and all, to the point of where he acknowledged it in the back of his mind. And Crow (and Johan) are definitely BROS, though in that... bff buddies way. He didn't really see Johan as a brother, nor does he have familial feelings for Crow just yet.
⒌ Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?

Aoko Nakamori is his closest friend, hands down. They met in front of the clock tower in Ekoda when they were really little (I say six, but a specific age is never given). Aoko was lonely, so he approached her and gave her a rose to cheer her up. They've been best friends ever since, and he has taken it upon himself to be highly protective of her... sometimes unnecessarily so since Aoko is capable of taking care of herself, but!
⒍ Does he have other close friends?

WELL, he seems to be popular at school, but I don't think any of these friends are nearly as close to him as Aoko is. They're people he hangs out with I think, but not people he trusts with everything he has.

In Johto he has a two people he trusts to Aoko levels, though they sit just a bit less than her since AOKO IS ALWAYS NUMBER ONE: Heather, and Crow (Kay and Johan were here, too). They're the only other two people he would be somewhat okay with dropping a few of his masks for. He is also close to Yayoi, Cocona, Miles, and Rise, but he doesn't quite... trust any of them to the same levels just yet, or has reasons why he's holding part of himself back with them.
⒎ Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?

Kaito's pretty easygoing, so making quick friends and getting to know someone is pretty easy for him. It may take them a while to really get to know him, though. He has a bazillion layers to get through.
⒏ Which does he consider more important: family or friends?

Neither: they are both important to him.
⒐ Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?

Single but not really actively looking, even if he is a huge flirt. He's kind of derpy with actual relationships anyway, having never been in a serious one, and it might take something hitting him in the face HARD to realize that someone else might actually care about him in that way. He tends to be really oblivious about things like crushes, even the ones he has, and he won't pick up on them unless something really obvious clues him off on one. His knowledge of the female gender extends about as far as 'how to flirt with them,' and everything else beyond that... total mystery.
⒑ Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?

lol even if he was married, he'd be monogamous.
⒒ Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?

Aoko was his first real crush, and it's one that has lasted for a good long while too! He currently still has it and has awakened to it somewhat, but he's not exactly sure how deeply it runs or what it means, so he isn't really planning on doing anything about it for now. Especially not when he also has a crush on Heather and is generally very much in the dark on what to do about this. SEE ESSAY.
⒓ What does he look for in a romantic partner?

A girl who can take care of herself, to put it succinctly. Someone passionate and fiery and intelligent with her own views on the world, who isn't influenced by other people. Someone who can keep up with him and keep him in line every time he steps out of it and yet won't hold him back from being the independent hardhead he is. Looks and attractiveness are nice, but they don't cut it. If the girl isn't independent or strong and can't think for herself, then he sees no point in trying to pursue a relationship with them. He will flirt with anything with boobs though. Especially attractive girls.
⒔ Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does he want any?

He is to young to really consider this fffft.
⒕ Does he have any rivals or enemies?

Lol yes, he has a splash of both! Kaito is the perfect character for rivalries too, since he really does enjoy going toe-to-toe with people who can keep up with him. His canon rivals are Hakuba, Conan, and now Heiji thanks to them meeting in Johto, and he respects all three of these guys wholeheartedly (if somewhat begrudgingly because sometimes they get the upper hand on him, and that makes him :T). He will willingly engage any of them in battles of wit and will enjoy himself as he does so! And his enemies all hail from whatever organization Snake comes from, who are all out to kill him and he hates with a passion. Snake and his cronies are the only lucky bastards Kaito openly 'hates,' too. He isn't really the kind of guy who 'hates' people easily.
⒖ What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?

TOTAL HETEROSEXUAL, and basically a flat 0 on the Kinsey scale. He might shift to a 1 when he's in female disguise and is trying to tease someone by ~*flirting with them*~, but it's all very tongue-in-cheek and he means nothing by it. He is only sexually attracted to the ladies.
⒗ How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?

Kaito points out with a grumpy scoff that this information is supposed to be private.
⒘ What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?

THIS TOO PEOPLE.

BELIEFS.

⒈ Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?

In Western astrology, Kaito's a Gemini/Cancer cusp kid (June 21st birthday), though he really fits Gemini more than he fits Cancer (read this and you'll know why). Aaaaand since DCMK takes place in a floating timeline and in one chapter they might say it's 1990 and in another it's suddenly 2000, I'm actually not sure what his Chinese zodiac sign is! |D
⒉ Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?

Neeeeeither, really. He just doesn't put much stock into religion or superstition or stuff (though he celebrates the holidays with religious origins that are widely celebrated in Japan, like Christmas, and some of the spiritual festivals like Tanabata). He has more important things to worry about in his mind, sooo I'd say he’s really a... non-caring agnostic.
⒊ Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?

Kaito has a very strict code of ethics he sticks to, especially when heisting as Kid. It is a bit skewed in some ways, but basically he is a very big believer in 'sometimes you have to do wrong to achieve right.' This is why he is okay with being a thief to achieve justice/revenge on his father's murderers, because the police obviously weren't able to do anything about these criminals. Sometimes, it takes a criminal to catch a criminal, and Kaito is okay with being that criminal! Beyond that, the most important non-thief moral he holds dear is, of course, 'absolutely no one gets hurt during a heist. He will go out of his way to ensure everyone is safe (even if he does dangerous things to achieve this, and even if he's trying to ensure his enemies don't get hurt), and he feels really, really guilty if something out of his control happens to compromise the safety of someone at a heist. Take, for example, Jack Connery, from the Nightmare case, which is an incident Kaito still beats himself up for (and may just think, in the back of his mind, that he was at fault for). Kaito has always been the kind of guy who does whatever he thinks is right whenever he can, and this easily transferred over to Kid when he picked up his dad's mantle.

... that said, if someone ever hurts someone he cares about, he will get pretty angry, and he is not above seeking revenge/vengeance (that is part of the reason he is Kaitou Kid, after all). He would never ever kill anyone ever because he refuses to stoop to the same level as his father's murderers (and you can't give lives back), but... he might throw a punch or two. Or find some other way to seek vengeance.
⒋ How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?

Curious and tolerant generally, though if he thinks the belief is stupid (like Aoko's belief in ghosts back home), he'll say so.
⒌ What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?

He has a slight prejudice against detectives and other criminal-catching people, but that is because he is a thief and automatically has to put himself on guard whenever talking to people who fall in this category. This may also be because he has dealt with smug Hakuba and confident Conan and harheaded Heiji on numerous occasions, and they want to jail him and thaaaaat’s not cool. He's also wary of police officers for similar reasons, and he honestly doesn't have the most faith in the legal system. Hard, strict, and rigid rules don't always work, and he knows people have to bend them and he doesn't think that people who do bend them for a right reason should be caught. He will call said police when he needs them though, because even as a thief working outside of the law, there are things he needs people with authority for. He doesn't hate anyone who is involved with it, nor does he even start out disliking them, he's just. Really wary. He does have the capacity to befriend detectives and police officers though (he respects Hakuba and Conan, has become pretty good friends with Heiji, and Ginzo is like WAY HIGH UP on his list of people he likes/respects) but he'll be even less inclined to trust them or tell them about his career as Kid.

... he is also, as Kay liked to put it, prejudiced against fish.

DAILY LIFE.

⒈ What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?

He's... a teenager. He gets an allowance but it's nothing huge, and he spends a lot of it on boy things like video games and magic effects. He also has to set aside a good chunk of that allowance to fund his heists (though Jii helps in that regard sometimes), so when at home, he usually finds himself living on the broke side.

In Johto this changes significantly since he performs for money on street corners and earns a few pokebucks from the occasional trainer battle here or there! Not to mention he doesn't heist as much in Johto, so the Kid doesn't act as much of a suck on his funds-- and even then, heisting in Johto is so much cheaper than heisting at home. Kaito is fairly well off here. Not super rich, but he definitely has enough to sustain himself.
⒉ What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?

As a student at home, he is super popular, apparently! Especially with girls in his class. He honestly really doesn't think much of it or put much stock into popularity though because there are more important things in life than... being liked by a bunch of people. As Kid, he is also very popular! And this is popularity he revels in a bit more because it's popularity as a performer, and gaining an audience and enthralling that audience is something he needs to be able to do in order to succeed.

On Route he makes a point to talk to any and everyone, and he definitely knows a good amount of people, but the group of people he would call friends is still fairly small. He has a bit of notoriety as THAT AWESOME STREET MAGICIAN, especially after performing for so long, but it's nothing as big as Kid as home. And although he has introduced Kid to the network and Johto as a whole, he still has yet to rebuild that reputation.
⒊ Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?

At home, he lives in a small house with his mum! It's a well-kept, cozy house that looks like it belongs to someone who is probably middle-class. Not too fancy, but not too shabby. He likes his home and would be sad if it burned down or something, but there are places in Ekoda that are more important to him (i.e. that clock tower).

Obviously in Johto, he has no permanent home, and he pretty much refuses to even entertain the thought of settling. He travels from city to city to city, hanging up his hat in whatever inn or route he happens to be in at the moment, and he is perfectly content with this. I imagine he shares his inn rooms with Crow and Aoko, though. PILE ON THE BED?
⒋ Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?

... lol. Video games and magic effects and Kid heists.

In Johto, he spends his proceeds on items for his Pokemon, magic effects, things he feels he might need for a future heist, and the essentials.
⒌ What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?

At home, he's a student, so he doesn't really have a job yet. Unless you count Kaitou Kid, which... is kind of a job. And yes, he is good at it, almost dangerously so because it gives him a somewhat inflated ego, especially since he has never been caught. His one and only ~*true calling*~ is that of a magician, and he would honestly never, ever entertain the idea of pursuing another career.

In Johto, that idea of becoming a professional magician is a bit more reachable! Especially since he has taken to performing for cash instead of working in Centers and Marts and the like, and like I said, he has a bit of notoriety on that front. Beyond that, he is... still a trainer, and he has come to like it, so!
⒍ What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?

Ahaha well. It's pretty obvious one of his biggest hobbies is magic, and he spends a lot of time working on that. He's always drafting new effects and perfecting his old ones or occasionally coming up with heist plans and whatnot. Other than magic, at home he was really into video games and could be seen playing those a lot, often with Aoko in tow. He also does... silly teenage boy things, like talk to Aoko or hang out with friends downtown and... yes.

In Johto, he has taken to letter-writing as a way to remain connected with his friends and family at home, though he doesn't do it too often, and he has since stopped writing letters to Aoko since she is here now.
⒎ What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?

He's a pretty average eater? He eats three meals a day, normal size, and snacks occasionally in the afternoon or when he's hungry.

In Johto he has taken to eating smaller meals when on routes due to conserving food, but when in cities, he eats pretty normally and has managed to maintain a steady weight. The only food he avoids is fish, because AAAAH PHOBIA, and all that.
