Profound Dorktitude, and Daily Words

Dec 11, 2010 05:52

Jen and Jay and I were coming back from dinner and talking about how Jay needed to move something, and when he and his co-workers were discussing how to move some equipment he'd said "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure."

So I said "that's such a useful phrase." Which got Jen singing:

"Nuke it from orbit, ain't no passing craze."

And Jay and I joined in for

"It means no worries, for the rest of your days,
It's a problem-free
philosophy
just nuke it from orbit!

Just nuke it -- from orbit -- just nuke it -- from orbit"

Anyway. Words.

Eternal Summer: 563 words
BEGINNING LINE: She stood, staring at the dead receiver in her hand. “Daddy?”
FAVORITE LINE: “Why don’t you have a seat on the sofa.”
It was green and plaid and stained and, when Summer ran her hand across it, scratchy. Audra opened the cupboard and ran the water and came back with two glasses, one full of ice water and the other full of something that looked like Diet Coke but smelled like alcohol, even from this far away. She sat down across the battered table.
ENDING LINE: “Phew!” It smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned since her father had moved out. All that were in there were a bunch of take-out boxes and a carton of half-and-half that had expired weeks ago.
