Thanksgiving

Hope everyone who celebrated Thanksgiving had a happy one. Ours was a bit bittersweet... My mom had major surgery last month and while the healing is going well, she's been very much out of sorts. She's lucid, restless, very out of it... Like half the day she's in a constant state of half-sleep. It's pretty upsetting, to be honest.

If my dad's research is right, it looks like one of her meds may be the problem - apparently, in some rare cases, stopping her type of sleep medication can result in drastic withdrawel symptoms, including throwing off serotonin levels. By all accounts, these are temporary, lasting from a few days to a few weeks before everything returns to normal. Mom's moments of clarity and trying to explain things better and proving she's aware of the world around her, just disconnected in responding, are signs that this is true.

Here's hoping it is indeed temporary.

Other than this wonderful piece of family drama, life's going all right. Just have to keep stuff together and finish up this semester on a decent note. Only two more to go...

UPDATE: Mom's doing much better now, and seems to be back to normal mentally. That's a huge relief.

Now I just need to make sure I don't royally screw up my last art history test...
