Back and with a job!

Hello all,

I apologize for the random entry. It was mainly done out of laziness because I wanted to show a couple of friends what I had wrote and I didn't want to e-mail the file to each person individually so I decided to just post it and send the link. I was pleasantly surprised to see how so many responded, even though I have been live-journally dead for 6 months prior.

Things have going well. The past few months I've been caught up in a web because of JET. To make the story short, I applied for the CIR (coordinator) position and was deemed capable of doing the job from the onslaught of interviews, BUT I was under par compared to the rest of the interviewees so I was crammed at the bottom of a waiting list. I tried to inform the people at JET that I would be definitely interested in taking the ALT (teaching) position instead but they said that they really only allow then when the person does not pass the CIR interviews. In other words, I was good enough to be a CIR but not good enough to be at a decent position on their waiting list, which hurt me in the long run by not allowing me to revert to the ALT position. So, caught in a webbed catch 22, I've finally given up on waiting to hear back from them (because I still haven't heard a definite 'yes' or 'no') and decided to move on.

Which leads me to my next sorta big news. I'm moving on from working at Panera Bread to working at this international telecommunications firm called Primus. The pay is good and the benefits are better and I would actually be utilizing my Japanese abilities. I would be there as a customer assistant, to field any calls for setting up, changing, and removing account information. Since it is an international company, they are starting this new service which offers low costs for US citizens to call to Japan and they would also like me to be there to help their Japanese patrons. At first I flipped out when I thought I would have to be speaking keigo (honorifics) fluently but the guy set my mind at ease by saying that as long as I'm conveying what needs to be conveyed then it'll suffice. In other words, if I can work with these Japanese customers in half English and half Japanese then that's fine as long as a connection is made. Phrew! So I just made the call to give my OK to start and I work at Panera soon and will bid adieu.

Well that's all for now, more later! Take care all and thanks for the responses!
