Today I went to Burke's just to look
Didn't plan on spending any money
But then I saw three periodicals from the University of Memphis literary department
And they were each only two dollars, so I had to cave in and get those
I searched and searched and searched in poetry, trying to find a diamond in the rough
But I could find none
Everything was too clean, it all rhymed and lined up
Or it was too cliche and was all dribble
Or it was too far into the political scheme of life to be any fun
And I sat there searching until a teacher of mine came in the store
She walked straight over to the poetry section (because she teaches poetry at the school, but I didn't have her for my poetry class)
And she recognized me and we exchanged that awkward moment that people do when this kind of "I know you but I don't" thing happens
Anyway, she pulled out a book from the shelf for me and said:
"If you are looking for greatness you could read this. But only if you are looking for greatness"
I told her that I loved taking poetry at the school, that I adored Neruda and Rilke, and she nodded telling me that I would love it
Then she left
And I bought it
The book's title is "View With a Grain of Sand" by Wislawa Szymborska
And all of the book reviews emphasize how much others like it, so I am going to sit down and read the whole thing one day
Luckily school is almost out so it should be soon enough when I will have enough free time to sit and soak in poetry
Happy day!
Speaking of happy day, I went to see Doctor Winter today
I showed her my ballerinas, she loved them
I told her about my eating healthier and she seemed genuinely happy that I was happy
It was a good week
It doesn't mean that I won't have bad ones
I am seeing her next week, but I am skipping the next two because of the holidays
That and I am not sure that I really need a session just this moment
A good week doesn't clarify a need to not go to therapy, but it does allow me to test and see if I can hold on to my good disposition
And give Doctor Winter a chance to enjoy her Christmas
Jenny is coming to town!
I am super excited
Even if I still have no idea what to get her or anyone else for x-mas
It will come to me at some point, so it will be alright
Right now I am going to dip into some more poetry (this time from the Pinch periodicals from the U of M, they are quite good ^-^)
