Recreating Japanese Women, 1600-1945 (Berkeley: University of California Press, 1991).Gender history is one of those fields that zips along - I prefer monographs to edited volumes, in this case, but this volume edited by Bernstein is a nice resource, though it definitely shows its age in some respects.
