It's official, I no longer have a grasp of any language

I just realized with more than a little bit of shame that I wasn't even paying attention when I tossed together my new journal settings and ....

... promptly used the wrong form of quel. And then didn't notice for a month.

WOOOOO.

I just noticed & was aghast (or is that aghasted? :P). Maybe this is why Mummy keeps harping on me to "keep up on [my] damn French." I do think there's more than a bit of bitterness 3 decades later about failing the history dept. French exam at Princeton, but whatever. She's got a point, apparently, because -

I'm losing my grasp on English, my grasp of French is apparently gone, and I have days of thinking that my Chinese is going to suck for the next ... eternity (spoken, at least). I have visions of me going to do research on the Mainland & having to write everything out in lieu of saying it, because I will still be stuck in the "Wait, did I just use the wrong word? I DID. Fuck." and I have a feeling archivists aren't nearly as accommodating as shopkeepers down at the night market (nothing makes me feel stupider than being sweetly coached through a sentence. I feel like I'm a kid again - "YES! Look at that, you made a WHOLE SENTENCE all by yourself! A cookie for you!" or, in my case, "Yes, we'll box this fan up for you right away.")
