One of the reasons I love The Legend so much is because of the lead pair. Damduk & Sujini. They rock SO HARD. The only pair I have shipped this hard Is Michael & Nikita from La Femme Nikita.
Reason #1: INTIMACY.
People, look just how comfortable they are with each other. Damduk had just first met Sujini in this scene. He had seen her in the markets, gambling away and being the goof that she is, but this was the first time that he had actually spoken to her. The fact that he isn't bothered by her physical contact is an early sign of how compatible they are.
Only Sujini can make Damduk smile like that. It's her cheerfulness and upbeat attitude to street-rat life that amazes him :)
Question #1. Do you think it was Sujini or Damduk that first fell for the other? I think it was Sujini. She was pulled by his charisma and general good looks. The scene below is a perfect example.
The hardcore drinker, carefree Sujini was mesmerised by this man that she had just met. Someone who 'walks like a noble' but dresses in rags. Mmmm. I LOVE :)
She couldn't believe that Damduk is actually The Crown Prince! Compare the 'young' Sujini and 'worn out' Kiha. I think Moon Soo Ri/Kiha is actually quite pretty but she was *cough* made to look older in The Legend. Her clothes often made her look bulkier than she really is, too.
Eee! That stare :)
And even Kiha got jealous seeing them both together :D YES.
Reason #2. SELFLESSNESS.
I loved how, despite knowing that Damduk still had feelings for Kiha, Sujini is still so selfless and worries more about Damduk rather than her own feelings.
She is so sensitive and attuned to Damduk's.
*ahem* I think one of Bae Yong Joon's forte is smiling in this specific manner. Damn he could break a heart XD
Question #2. What do you think Damduk's stare was?? I can't decide if it's a feeling of anguish/loss for being separated from Kiha, or disappointment that there were Hwacheon troops following her, hence betrayal.
And guh. Sujini got hit. Loved how she kept on fighting.
This look. I think it's one of disbelief. Disappointment and anger for having made to choose whether to save Sujini or kept on going to Kiha. Of course being the wise Crown Prince that he is, he cannot bear to have anyone dying for him.
Reason #3. DEVOTION.
Damduk, you are so lucky to have this woman this devoted to you. She doesn't care if she has to go against the Goguryeo's elders in order to protect Damduk. It's almost heart wrenching how much 'power' Damduk has over her feelings and actions. I'm just so glad that further on he realises how important she is to him because if not, I would strangle him myself :D
And just with that one stare. One look. Her expression changes.
And YES. I was in so much glee when Damduk didn't reach out to Kiha's hand. YES.
She couldn't believe it. Well *ding dong* I think that's perfectly called for, considering how you almost got Sujini killed!!
And again. It is Sujini who rushes to Damduk's side.
I interject. How can you have a huge sword thrust into you and still look so good? Man I love the make up artist and the directors in this drama :D
Question #3. I do not understand this particular scene! Sujini just received a Stock/Inventory Checklist (for going to battle) from Dalbi (who is, btw, very pretty for a middle aged woman!), and she gave that to Damduk. Sujini then goes off and muck around with the Guh Mool disciples.
Now this stare. I don't know what it is supposed to imply!!! What do you think??? And why was the Guh Mool elder staring at Damduk in that way? Did he start to notice too, that Damduk was developing an attachment to Sujini?
LOL. Such a bratty kid.
Reason #4. THE NEED TO BE NEAR EACH OTHER.
Though Damduk confesses that Sujini is like a sister to him, I believe he just wasn't fully aware of his feelings yet. And that was also affected by the complicated situation with Kiha.
Okay so it was mentioned over and over again that Damduk couldn't get much sleep at all. Hello, where are the bags under his eyes? How come I have worst bags than him? Unfair.
"I can abstain from breathing but not from this." LOL. I cracked up at that.
And Kiha watches from afar.
Any idea what the Korean/Hangul (?) writing means??
And this scene. Damduk goes 'Oh ho" ~ I found that really, really amusing :D
Again. That smile captured from this sort of angle *melt*
And Damduk senses that they are being watched. Hmmm.
Reason #5. ALWAYS BEING THERE.
TPTB, thank you for making Sujini the one who's always there for Damduk when he's:
1) in grave danger; 2) upset; and 3) needs a companion. You certainly know how to please your audience.
And the way he clutches on to her.
I think this is when Damduk started forgetting about Kiha. Memories of her are beginning to fade and buried deep down. And what matters more is the person next to him now.
Reason #6. INTENSITY
Man. The armour scene! ***kyaaaaaaaaaaaa*** You gotta love the intensity of what follows. God this has gotta be one of my fave Damduk/Sujini scene in the whole serial.
Being in such proximity. Guuuuuh.
Any more intense and they'd sizzle. Seriously.
Wonder what was going through his mind :)
*cough* I told you he wants her to always be near him.
... though he always claims that he's trying to protect her from all sorts of mischief, we know better :D
"Am I glue??" LOL.
Eeeeeeeeeeee! I loved this line "Can't you just once say yes in a sweet voice?"
And loved it even more when she softly, obediently, said 'yes. Heck, I think I even blushed looking at the sweet.
One of my FAVOURITE scene of Damduk, period. Loved the smile/semi smirk. Just so good.
And giving the vial. I know it is a little cheesy, but I couldn't help but think it was the best thing to happen to them to this far into the serial.
Damduk dear, that's not how you hold the hand of someone you consider a 'sister' :D
And the gleeful, shy, expression on her face. Priceless.
Reason #7. I WILL RESCUE YOU, EVEN IF IT MEANS PUTTING MY LIFE IN DANGER.
Okay. If you don't get by now how important Sujini is to Damduk, you need to be yoinked in the head :D I also really liked how everyone else, like the Guh Mool Leader and Jumuchi also came to her rescue.
And look how happy she is :)
If I didn't root Damduk and Sujini so hard, Chuh Roh would have been my second choice :)
Kind of creepy to have someone looking at you bathe. But since it's Chuh Roh, oh well, fine by me XD
And despite her sheer happiness after having been rescued by the man she loves, there is a part of her that still cannot believe that the King would have any special feelings towards her *sigh*
Not a Damduk/Sujini scene. But I think this was an important, symbolic scene of when Damduk finally 'buried' Kiha. He had gone to confront Kiha at the Temple of Oracle, and told her that he no longer hoped for her. He couldn't help but flashback to the past, where their 'lonely' love first blossomed.
But he soon returns to the reality, that Kiha has changed and become his opponent.
Question #3. What do you think Damduk meant by 'There was a little bit of hope left in me.' Did he still hope for Kiha? Want to be with her? Or did he hope that Kiha wasn't as everyone informed him (ie. killer of his father and the Oracle)?
YES. YES. YES. YES.
And I particularly love how 'serene' and firm Damduk's face seems when he told Kiha that he gave up on her. And when he put out the light (last cap below), it was symbolic that he decided to 'close' a chapter of his life which involved Kiha *sigh*
