Haha, I've been intending to watch those two anime too :D Chihayafuru is a josei series. (Yaaaay josei anime!) I am amused that the girly boy in Kimi to Boku has the same name as the girly boy in Greenwood. His personality does seem rather different though!
Oh, I've been admiring the covers to Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun for a while now!! Interesting that you see so many parallels to Kanoko :D I might check the series out sometime too!
yes, he seems more naive and nicer than the one in Greenwood. He's like the main character in Greenwood - trying to make peace for everyone. Thanks for the info. Yay for josei anime. No wonder I like it ;)
"Interesting that you see so many parallels to Kanoko" There are lots of similarities (the heroine doesn't care for friendship at the beginning of the series, but gradually she gets friends) but it's also very different. The heroine is not as dense as Kanoko and her mom doesn't freak out at every little things she does. In fact, she's working far away, so the girl needs to take care of her younger brother. Her sole goal is to get very good grade to get to good university and then make lots of money :)
"I might check the series out sometime too!" Please do so I can glean information :)
So after reading your post I went and watched Chihayafuru and Kimi to Boku for myself. KtB was as lethargic and slow-paced as I expected; I think I'd like it better in manga format where I could read at my own pace, but I didn't dislike it. I'd say the twins are too low-energy to compare to the Hitachiin brothers, though. And Kaname gets much more abuse than anyone would ever dare give Kyoya, heh heh.
And then I watched Chihayafuru!!! I expected it to be good, but oooooh, I loved it!! The characters are all great (especially Chihaya-it's always a good sign when I absolutely love the heroine). And cute glasses boy! Kya!
I just made a big CDJapan order a couple days ago, but I'll keep Kaibutsu-kun in mind for next time :D
"KtB was as lethargic ..." True. That is funny. I thought it was me since I usually watch anime starting at 11pm and I fell asleep :) I really like Chihaya. She's great. The way she's watching out for the new boy in class when the others pick on him because he's new. That causes the other boy to be jealous, heh.
"I just made a big CDJapan order a couple days ago" What did you get? Maybe there's something you requested that I may need ;) to take advantage of the sale. Also there is a new set of Kanoko questions - I noticed that I didn't get email notifications on replies.

I was happy to see Kanade in episode 6!! She's adorable~ And I'm excited for the prospect of characters wearing pretty traditional Japanese clothes :D It was nice to learn a bit about the cultural side of karuta, since it's so far been more about the competition.
I just left a comment on Kodansha's facebook page about Chihayafuru. It can't hurt to ask, right?
Re: Chihayafuru 2-6badtzphotoNovember 16 2011, 01:44:31 UTC
I agree epi 6 is a nice change. I like Kanade already. She's strong and smart. And just because she's interested in the poems doesn't mean she'd join the club if it's not up to her standard! However, why did she join the archer club? If she only wanted to wear hakama, then that doesn't match her personality. I'm confused. Go Lys. Taking time from your busy schedule to comment on Kodansha about Chihayafuru :) Awesome.
Re: Chihayafuru 2-6lyschanNovember 16 2011, 02:58:06 UTC
She joined the archery club because the uniform is the hakama, which fits in with her love for traditional and classical Japanese stuff (clothing, literature, etc). I think that's all there was to it. Does that explain or no?
Hahaha. If they know there's demand, maybe we'll get what we hope for! *continues hoping*
