Art and Story by Kenji Sonishi

From Tokyopop
Taisho was a former kitten model, who ran away from home and had a hard life on the streets... until the day he was saved by a kind ramen shop owner who later served as his mentor. Now Taisho takes pride in his noodles... and is easily angered when customers are dissatisfied! So step aside, Soup Nazi -- there's a new cat is in town!

Some points:
- borrowed from ILL.
- 4-panels aren't for me.
- There are some funny moments, but I prefer people instead of animals :)
- the funniest one is the recipe for diet ramen: zero calories :D
- Not something I'd reread - I prefer romance ...
- I like Hazuki better the more I know about him. He's such a good egg.

Bottom line, may borrow #2 in the future.

17b. 3 volumes of Ballad of a Shinigami (しにがみのバラッド。 Shinigami no Baraddo).

From back covers
Vol 1: An angel of death bridges the realms of the living and the dead
Shinigamis are usually thought of as dark and scary, but no Momo. She's the beautiful and sympathetic messenger of death who helps people transition to the other side, prevents others from ending their own lives, and carries messages from the dead to the living. Based on the Japanese light novel series that later became an anime, Ballad of a Shinigami is a collection of stories about people coming to terms with death that are alternately sad, funny, and heartwarming.
Vol 2: tbd - I can't find the book at this moment!
Vol 3: The final collection of stories featuring Momo, the beautiful Shinigami.
Eko has not come to terms with her older sister's death. She is racked with guilt over something she was thinking the day before her sister died. Will Momo be able to grant her some closure? Then a tragic turn of events for a set of twins and their stepbrother leaves 2 of them trying to cope with the loss of someone they both loved. And when a budding young romance is torn apart by a sudden death, could the one left behind take his anger out on their cat?

Some points:
- I got this after DC closed CMX last year.
- A collection of shorts, so each volume can be a standalone. Shinigami Momo is the only thread connecting these!
- Sad read since some characters died or had already dead when the stories start!
- The artist is the author of Lizard Prince. Her art is quite nice and cute.
- I like the stories and the characters.
- There are some cute cats.

Bottom line, melancholy read. I probably reread.
