Okay, I haven't looked at the script for this volume since I did the adaptation, but here's what I remember off the top of my head. (Plus a quote at the end. *g*)

Chapter 10: Kanoko's mom drafts her to help the bakery owner in their new neighborhood (whose part-timer is sick) in order to make a good impression. The little boy is a rich kid who's refusing to accept his new stepmother as his mom and resists all of her efforts to bond with him. (His stubbornness is because TV has lied and taught him that a real mother always knows what her child is thinking.) Kanoko calls him out on being remarkably stupid, right around when his stepmother is grabbed by a thug (the purse snatcher) who's been hired to rough her up. The kid rounds up his friends and attacks the thug, and presumably he and his family live happily ever after.

In the course of those events, Tsubaki pulls his usual "I have the flimsiest pretext in the world for being here" stunt and winds up bonding with the kid a little, which astonishes Kanoko, who didn't expect him to be good with kids.

Chapter 11: This one's kind of complicated. The two boys in this chapter were childhood friends. Boy A is an occult fanatic, and the reason their friendship fell apart is that when he developed a crush on a girl, Boy B tried to win back his attention by faking occult powers. It backfired, and A decided (rightly) that B was a fraud.

In the present day, B's "powers" are challenged by some classmates, right around when he's starting to think of dropping the act. Kanoko (who, IIRC, claims she finds it more interesting to watch someone live with a lie than watching them come clean--but I'm a little fuzzy on that at this point) helps B by blackmailing the science club into helping out with some phony supernatural effects, and the boys' friendship is restored.

As for Kanoko herself, she's a bit taken aback when A decides she's suspicious, looks into her background, and decides that she's a "junior secret agent". She totally runs with it, though.

(LJ is flatly refusing to post another comment. Maybe it'll take a short one? Anyway, I'll try again later with the rest.)

Thanks so much. You're so awesome for doing this. I appreciate it very much.
I'm digging the book out to look at the pictures again with your explanations. And there I thought Tsubaki had a legitimate reason for hanging out at the arcade playing games and just happened to run into Kanoko :) He's a real stalker, isn't he?
Hanai is so cute and nice :)
LJ is so weird regarding comments.
