Last Friday, sometime in the morning at work I started having a little lower back spasm. No fun, but whatever, right? It happens. I can't do the "touch my toes with hips squared" move, which is annoying, but dealable.
Saturday, it was still twingy, but it felt somewhat better. I did normal activities, even walking probably over a mile each way to a Halloween party, and contact juggling in the yard a bit. Still can't touch my toes.
Sunday, worse. I spent most of the day sitting in bed next to
melithiel reading. By the end of the day, things were looking up. Still can't touch my toes, though. At this point, the pain has started being less in my lower back, and more in my butt.
Monday, I went to work. The day started feeling again a little better, but by early afternoon the pain started being really intense, and through my butt and hamstrings. By the time I got home from work, it was bad enough that I could barely walk, and was crying a little. Around six AM I finally got some real sleep by digging out a percoset from when I had my appendix out.
So yeah, the touching-toes thing that I can't do? It's this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_leg_raise Today I stayed home from work and went to the doctor. Yep. She says she thinks I have a herniated disk pressing on my sciatic nerve, and there's not much I can do for now but take it easy and keep myself dosed on painkillers.
I am displeased. And pretty damn scared of how long the recovery on this thing tends to be. Thank god I live in a supportive situation, though. Major points to Alex for driving me to the doctor and the pharmacy today, and
melithiel for being in general comforting and going shopping for me and all kinds of other love.
