It seems things have quieted down to a dull roar.

With Trunks and Bra back in school, things seem a lot quieter around here the vast majority of the time. Of course, there are tradeoffs. Over the summer, we'd see maybe one or two of their friends at a time, unless the gang came over to work out in the micro-g room or whatever. The first night of school, though, it felt like we had practically every kid in the city in our house. Bra invited a bunch of girlfriends over to cover books, since the school requires it and it's tedious and it takes a while, and Trunks brought over a herd of his guy friends (yes, guys come in herds -- like pack animals -- because the more of them you have in one place, the stupider they get) to play video games. And why are we playing video games on the first day of school?

"We don't have any homework!"

And when I asked whether they had books to cover?

"Well..."

Bra was listening to this whole thing quietly up until about here, where, much to the surprise of everyone in the room, she announced, "We'll cover them for you!" She gave that a moment to sink in before adding, "It'll cost you five bucks apiece, but we'll cover them."

"Really?"

"Really."

So the deal was made, and everybody went off to their separate rooms, and I played with Vicki in the living room and waited for the meltdown, which came about an hour and a half later, when the boys got their books back, covered, of course, but covered in pieces of the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears posters Bra took down after getting out of the Time Chamber last year and never got around to throwing away.

Sure, they grow up a bit, but that doesn't mean they're by any means mature.

But that got quite a rise out of the boys, for the most part. However, all was well once the All-Powerful Mommy stepped in and decreed that the deal was not off because the girls had done exactly what they agreed to do, then handed the boys a few rolls of duct tape and told them to flip the covers inside out.

So, between the hours of 7 AM and 3 PM, my life is fairly peaceful once more. After that? Don't hold your breath.
