Double Drabble: Too Close

Summary: The battle against the latest invading aliens isn’t going well, but that’s about to change.

A/N: Double drabble.
Jack stumbled to a halt and bent over, hands on knees, trying to catch his breath.
“That was a bit too close for comfort!” he panted.
‘Much too close,’ Coat thought to itself. “And not at all comfortable.” It twitched its tails, testing the damage to its person. One of the aliens’ laser weapons had cut right through its left back panel, slicing down and through its hem, leaving a five-inch slit, not just in the wool but in the lining too. The edges were seared and melted, which would hamper healing. It might be necessary for Ianto to cut away the dead fabric.
Ianto was currently leaning against a solid brick wall a few feet away, still breathing hard, but checking his weapon. “I hope the others get here soon. We need more firepower; our handguns are no match for their lasers.”
“But our guns will outlast theirs. I’ve seen lasers like those before; they don’t have removable power packs, the whole gun has to be recharged, and that takes hours. They only have one laser apiece, so they’ll have to switch to their projectile weapons soon, and they don’t have the range ours do.”
“I hope you’re right.”
