“Where are you going with that?” Jack said, seeing Ianto crossing the Hub carrying an alien artefact. It looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it.
“Outside,” Ianto said calmly, continuing on his way.
Jack moved to block him. “You know the rules about not taking alien tech out of the Hub. They exist for a reason.”
Ianto rolled his eyes. “It’s just a lamp, Jack. I’ve been using it down in the archives for months. It’s very convenient.”
Ah, now Jack recognised it. When they’d found it in the sewers, it had been upside-down, three rods sticking out of something resembling a glowing egg, only it wasn’t glowing now.
“Doesn’t it usually give off a blue light?”
“Yes!” Ianto smiled approvingly. “That’s why I’m taking it outside.”
“Okay, I’m missing something here.” There were days when Jack was convinced Ianto’s brain didn’t work like other people’s, or at least not like Jack’s own.
Ianto sighed. “It’s not glowing because it’s out of power and needs recharging.”
Jack still wasn’t getting it. “So?”
“It’s solar powered, Jack! This isn’t the first time I’ve recharged it. A couple of hours in the sunlight and it’ll be good as new again.”
