“I swear, sometimes I think you’d hibernate if you could!” Ryo stood beside Dee’s bed, grinning down at the lump buried under the covers.

“Damn right I would,” Dee replied, voice muffled by the blankets and comforter. “Bears got the right idea; sleep through winter and all the bad weather, emerge in spring to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures.”

“It’s spring now.”

“Could’a fooled me. Stuck my foot out a while back and it’s frickin’ freezin’ in here now the heating’s been turned off. I’d rather stay where it’s warm and cosy.”

Ryo couldn’t deny that his partner’s apartment felt chilly, but that was sort of beside the point. “I’m sure a hot shower and a coffee would warm you up.”

“Maybe so, but I’d haveta get outta bed first. Not seein’ any incentive here.”

“How about you’ll be late for court if you don’t get up and get dressed? Think the risk of being called in contempt and spending a few nights in the cells might be enough incentive to get your ass in gear?”

Dee’s head emerged. “Court?”

“The Henderson case, did you forget?”

“Damn! Thought that was tomorrow!”

Ryo had never seen Dee move so fast.
