“Tomorrow night’s date night,” Dee reminded his lover as they clocked off at the end of another long shift. “Got any ideas about what you wanna do?”
“Sleep,” Ryo said, unlocking his car door. He’d driven to work that morning knowing he had to do a big grocery shop on his way home; the older Bikky got, the more he ate, and the more he ate, the faster he grew. He’d be needing new clothes again in a month or two; even buying bigger sizes for him to grow into didn’t help much.
He realized Dee was silently staring at him. “What?”
“Between work and the brat, we’re lucky if we get one date night every couple of weeks, and you wanna waste it sleepin’?”
“I’m tired, Dee. We’ve been working twelve-hour shifts at least four days a week lately, I don’t have the energy to go dancing, or bowling, or whatever.”
“We could go see a movie. All you’d haveta do is sit down.”
“Oh, sure, pay to sit in a cramped cinema seat and sleep through a movie instead of stretching out in my comfortable bed. It would be a waste of money, and probably a waste of a good movie, because there’s no point paying to see something we don’t even want to watch. Look, can’t we just postpone date night until next week sometime? With any luck we’ll be done with overtime by then.”
Dee sighed. “I guess. I was lookin’ forward to spendin’ an evenin’ with you though.”
“We spend all day together at work!”
“Not the same.”
Ryo sighed, relenting. “You can still come over if you want, as long as you don’t mind me falling asleep on you.”
Dee brightened. “I can live with that. I’ll bring takeout, save you havin’ to cook.”
