Sometimes Dee envies Ryo’s rifle, and other times he’s outright jealous of it, which he knows is ridiculous, but still… Ryo’s his, and the care he lavishes on the damn gun is attention Dee wants for himself. Not that he’d ever say as much to Ryo, or let his lover see the resentment he sometimes feels towards the weapon.

He knows the rifle is important to his partner. In a way, it’s an extension of him, and as a police sniper, it’s his duty to maintain it in perfect working order at all times, because it has to be ready whenever he needs to use it. If a sniper is called for, it’s usually a matter of life and death; Ryo can’t afford to have his weapon malfunction at the worst possible moment. So he cleans and oils it regularly, whether or not it’s been used, and as much as Dee hates the attention that requires, he finds it impossible not to watch.

Ryo loses himself completely in the task, his hands moving with smooth precision as he dismantles the rifle. Somehow it’s different from when he does the same to his handgun, more intimate, more loving, and perhaps that’s why it bothers Dee even as it excites him. The way Ryo’s elegant fingers stroke along the barrel, smooth over the stock, makes Dee wish he could take the rifle’s place, feel his lover’s hands stroking over him the same way. It’s sensual, bordering on erotic, and it’s all Dee can do not to rip the gun out of Ryo’s hands and pounce.

But he can’t, because then Ryo would know that he gets turned on just by watching what to Ryo is probably nothing more than routine maintenance. Would his lover be embarrassed or shocked? Maybe a bit of both.

So Dee keeps quiet, pretends he isn’t watching Ryo’s every move, that he isn’t insanely jealous of every second the damned rifle gets to have Ryo’s undivided attention focused on it, because it’s not a living thing, simply one of the tools of Ryo’s trade.

But when Ryo’s looking at it like that, so intent, so completely absorbed, Dee would willingly trade places because he aches to know exactly how it feels to be touched that way, to be the absolute center of his lover’s awareness.

It’s a relief when Ryo finally places the rifle back in its case.

The End
