“Don’t ya just love rush hour in the city?” Dee grumbled. “Everyone’s in such a mad hurry to get home or to the nearest bar, all at the same time, that no one ends up gettin’ anywhere; they just wind up tryin’ to drive up the tailpipe of the car in front, and public transport’s no better. Buses are packed, subways are standin’ room only, and that’s if ya can even squeeze into a carriage, and good luck findin’ a vacant cab.”

Beside him, Ryo gave a wry smile. “It’s like this every day, Dee.”

“I know that! Doesn’t mean I don’t get to complain about it. Just think of all the time we’re wastin’ sittin’ here when we could be doin’ somethin’ fun, or at least useful! Work already takes up a big chunk of our time, but when traffic adds an hour each way to our daily commute…” Dee trailed off with a sigh. “It’s not fair, and y’know the worst part?”

“What?”

“There’s a growin’ trend towards workin’ from home, and that’s somethin’ we’re never gonna be able to do. We haveta go to the precinct every frickin’ day!”

“On the other hand, if more people choose to work from home, it should mean less traffic on the roads, and fewer people using public transport. It might even speed up our commute.”

“Huh, I hadn’t thought of that!” Dee glared through the windscreen. “So why the hell are all these people tryin’ to go somewhere if they can choose to work from home? Someone oughta tell ‘em to go set up their home offices and leave the streets clear for those of us don’t got a choice!”

Ryo bit his lip to keep from laughing. Some days, Dee was just determined to be mad at the world.

The End
