“Peace, perfect peace,” Ryo sighed, sinking onto the sofa in his and Dee’s apartment.
Dee snickered. “I thought you were lookin’ forward to the brat’s visit.”
“I was, and I’m glad Bikky’s home for a few days, but I’d forgotten how loud he can be.”
“Does sound kinda like a herd of elephants clompin’ around. Maybe you should’a fed him less when he was growin’ up, ‘cause it looks like he’s forgotten to stop.”
“You’re just sore because he’s so much taller than you now.”
“Like I’d ever wanna be that tall. Betcha clothes are costin’ him a fortune these days. Not so many places make stuff to fit beanpoles.”
“Dee!” Ryo laughed. “You make him sound like he’s seven feet tall instead of six foot five!”
“There’s time; he’s still growin’!”
“Not that much.” Ryo turned thoughtful. “You know, I thought it would be difficult adjusting to the quiet after he left for college. I was so used to the constant noise, music blaring out, computer games, the way Bikky always seemed to slam doors instead of just closing them…” He trailed off, shaking his head. “Guess I got used to it because I had to, kids are loud, but the quiet’s been nice. I can read and watch TV in peace most days.”
“He’ll be gone again before ya know it, back to L.A., and then you’ll be complainin’ that it’s too quiet,” Dee teased.
“I won’t,” Ryo insisted. “I love him, but I like peace and quiet.”
