“Another slice of Christmas cake, Doctor?” Jackie offered.
“No, thank you. One slice was plenty. Wouldn’t want to overdo it.”
“Well, if you change your mind just help yourself. There’s plenty.”
“I’ll remember that.” The Doctor had battled his way through half of the original slice before giving up, wrapping the rest in a paper serviette, and tucking it in his pocket when nobody was looking.
“Old family recipe,” Jackie was saying. “Nothing beats a nice bit of fruit cake at Christmas.”
“I didn’t eat mine either,” Rose whispered. “Mum’s baking is terrible, just don’t tell her I said that.”
