Summary: Why do kids have to listen to music at full volume?

Ryo sighed as he turned the key in the lock and let himself into his apartment, walking straight into what felt like a wall of sound. It was a miracle the neighbours weren’t complaining about the noise; he’d been able to hear it from the hallway, but it was so much worse now he was inside. It was a good thing Melinda next door was a bit hard of hearing, and everyone else was probably still at work.
He supposed it was music, although in his opinion there was nothing remotely musical about it, just a lot of discordant yelling and banging on drums. Nothing like what he’d listened to at Bikky’s age. Crossing to Bikky’s bedroom door, he knocked on it, then realising the boy wouldn’t be able to hear over the cacophony, he pushed the door open.
Sprawled across his bed, homework books open and scattered around him on the comforter, Bikky was sound asleep.
Shaking his head, Ryo made his way over to the boy’s sound system and turned the volume down.
“Hey,” Bikky mumbled, floundering awake. “I was listening to that!”
“You can still listen, just not as loud. I can do without being deafened.”
“Sorry.”
