As Dee struggled to peel JJ off him, all the time trying to evade the smaller man’s lips, he found himself wondering when the daily wrestling match had started to seem like business as usual.
He hated having to deal with JJ’s ardent declarations of love practically every time he stepped into the squad room; it was like trying to juggle a cross between an octopus and a limpet. But whenever JJ wasn’t there to greet him, Dee wound up being tense and on edge all day, waiting for his unwanted admirer to pop up and accost him.
It was almost better if he could get all the annoying stuff out of the way first thing, so he could concentrate on work, and on his partner, for the rest of his shift.
JJ was becoming just another of the minor irritations of the job, along with paperwork, red tape, and bad station house coffee. Something to be endured, dealt with when necessary, and ignored as much as possible the rest of the time.
Dee almost felt sorry for JJ. Was he really so deluded as to believe his daily assaults would win Dee over? They were having the opposite effect.
