“Did we get the footage from the security camera in the alleyway?” Ryo asked his partner as he slid into his chair.
Dee pulled a face. “Yep, not that it’s gonna help us.”
“Why not? Wrong angle?”
“No, the angle’s perfect. Hold on a sec and ya can see for yourself.” Dee clicked a few keys. “Okay, I just sent it to your computer.”
Ryo opened the video file, frowned, put his glasses on and leaned closer to the computer screen. “What the hell? I know the quality of CCTV isn’t always great, but this…” The image was so badly pixelated Ryo could barely make out that the figure on the screen was human; it could just as easily have been a Martian or a yeti.
“Computer techs are workin’ on the footage, but the security system the bar uses is practically prehistoric. They might manage to clean it up a little, but I can’t see it bein’ good enough to identify the attacker.” The two detectives were investigating a brutal assault where the victim had been left in a coma.
“So we’re no better off than we were before,” Ryo said gloomily.
“Haveta figure it out the old-fashioned way.”
