A night out at the Bronze with her friends should have been just what Buffy needed, a chance to kick back, relax, listen to music, drink sodas or coffee, eat junk food, chat about stuff, maybe even dance…
Somehow relaxing feels like the last thing she can manage though, no matter how much she wants to. Her friends are all couple-y, Xander with Cordy, Willow with Oz, and Buffy feels like the fifth wheel, totally useless and sort of flat, because she remembers being couple-y herself and right now she’s got nobody to be couple-y with.
There’s Scott Hope, and he’s cute, and interested, despite Buffy’s not exactly stellar reputation, but she’s not ready, not yet. Letting go of the past, letting go of Angel even though he’s been gone for months, is hard. She wants to move forward, but she keeps stalling, and what if she’s stuck like this forever?
It’s almost a relief to have her attention drawn to someone whose dress sense and dance style all but scream vampire. He’s leaving with some girl Buffy’s never seen before and following them provides a welcome distraction; slaying is something she knows how to do.
Relaxing is seriously overrated.
